James Reid Obituary

Published by San Mateo County Times from Jun. 7 to Jun. 9, 2005.
JAMES H. REID James Haste Reid, Jr., loving husband, father, brother and son, passed away on June 1, 2005, in the presence of his adoring family after a courageous battle with leukemia. Jim's first love above all else was his family, and he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Andrea, son Brent, daughter Alison, mother Huberta, his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Web Francis, and their three children Hunter, Chad and Crista. His legacy, the values, passion and enthusiasm with which he led his life, will be bestowed upon his devoted family and friends. Born June 22, 1943, in Rochester, New York, Jim received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Hobart College, New York, and attended graduate school courses at Golden Gate University in San Francisco before embarking on a 30-plus-year career in commercial real estate. After retiring from TRI Capital Corporation, a commercial mortgage banking company that he co-founded and served as Principal and Chief Operating Officer, Jim became a founding member and Managing Partner of Preservation Partners Development, an organization committed to the redevelopment of low income residential properties. Further, Jim established a not-for-profit foundation, Helping Hands of South Hayward, and an accompanying newsletter, "Neighborhood Spirit," dedicated to improving the lives of residents in the surrounding East Bay communities. Second to his family, golf was Jim's passion and his second home was the California Golf Club of South San Francisco, where he enjoyed the company of cherished friends. Jim also took great pleasure in traveling with his family and always embraced life to the fullest. With his unforgettable personality and eternal optimism, Jim served as an inspiration and mentor to so many. We miss him with all of our hearts and know that his indomitable spirit will continue to live on with all of us. Friends are invited to a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church located at One South El Camino Real at Baldwin Avenue in San Mateo, CA 94401. A celebration of Jim's life will follow at the California Golf Club located at 844 West Orange Avenue, South San Francisco, CA 94080. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jim's name to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486, http://www.mdanderson.org/gifts, to help fund acute myelogenous leukemia research or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Donor Services, P.O. I was so very saddened to hear the news about Jim. A true gentleman, he was a joy to work with. His dedication to his profession was only surpassed by his passion for his family. It was an honor to know him.
