James A. "Rusty" Russell, age 69, of Youngstown, OH, passed away on April 22, 2025. He was born February 13, 1956, in Youngstown OH to James M. and Evelyn (Robbins) Russell.

He was known for his vibrant sense of humor and love of family. He especially loved the time he spent with his grandson, James.

Rusty graduated from Canfield High School in 1974 and later earned a degree from Youngstown State University in 1985. He dedicated over 30 years to his career as a General Foreman in Heavy Highway construction, retiring in 2010. Post-retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a consultant with MS Engineering until 2024.

Throughout his life, Rusty was a passionate music lover, attending numerous concerts, and he enjoyed playing the drums. He also excelled as a home pitmaster, delighting friends and family with his BBQ skills. An avid sports fan, he loyally supported the New York Jets and Yankees.

Rusty is survived by his son, James M. Russell II and his partner Olivia Speicher of Austintown; grandson, James A. Russell II of Austintown; former wife, Cathy M. Libert of Mineral Ridge; sisters, Sandra L. "Lori" (Marc) Briel of Austintown, Robin A. (Charles) Cooper of Boardman, and Jill M. Russell of New Middletown; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his brother, Michael W. Russell.

In accordance with his wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of James. His legacy of laughter and love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
