So glad to know such a great guy!
He was a fine and decent man. The world is a lesser place in his wake. I have many fond memories of working with him.
That is very sad. He was such a nice man.
This hurts my heart.
Jim was my salvation. Always steady and always kind.
This is very sad! He was a really wonderful person who went out of his way to help others. I will miss him.
Jim was a very special person.
We´re very sad over here. What a tremendous man. We´re so very grateful for the festival because if it wasn´t for the festival, we wouldn´t have had the opportunity to know him, or you or all the fabulous other peeps.
What sad news -- Jim was such a faithful contributor to the Festival. I know that he has been greatly missed.
Makes me very sad. Such a great person on many levels. And, I think about him often, especially this time of year.

This is Sally Wakefield one of Jim's sisters. I was very much in agreement with Planting a tree as a Memorial to him. Today our Son Chris and his wife Jennifer helped me do just that. We planted a "Honey Gold Apple Tree" on their farm yard and for good measure a Climbing Rugosa Rose with apricot colored blooms to grow up the Garden Gate that Chris and Jen Made. I remember how delighted and impressed with this Gate Jim was when I sent photos to him. A good place for a memorial to my very dear Lover of all growing things Brother Jim. I am including photos That is Sally with the tree. The
farm is in Pony Gulch 8 miles outside of Harvey, North Dakota

Jim and I were cousins; my mother was his dad’s little sister. He was 4 when Mom and I visited our Sanders family when they lived in Thornton. WA. There were all sorts of fun places to play in that yard filled with flowers. Then, in 1953, we moved next door to Jim and his family when they lived in Fernwood out from Molalla, OR. We walked several miles down the hills to the 2-room country school where Jim was in 1st grade and I was in 3rd. Those walks were adventures as we looked for wildlife, picked wildflower bouquets for our mothers and picked out perfect rocks to see who could pitch the farthest (Although he was younger, Jim always out did me.) My family moved away for several years, but we came back and I finished 6th grade with Jim and his brothers at that country school. Jim was a good student and a hard worker as home finishing his chores so we could play Robin Hood and his merry men out in the woods or Annie Over over the bunkhouse roof. So many fun memories. My family moved to Idaho in 1957 and contact with Jim was almost nonexistent until his sister, Sally, got several of us into a family email group. Then Jim’s home improvement and landscaping talents became evident. His scientific interests and kind advice are now treasured memories.
My sincere condolences to each of you that he held so close.

I had the great honor of meeting Jim as my boss at Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation. Over the years Jim became a mentor and friend to me. To all of us at Lake Oswego he gave his heart, passion and kindness to community but even more to our staff! He was a great advocate and built his team up. When life did not go our way, he was always there to pick us up and find the positive outlook. Even after his retirement, I often reach out for his wise words and perspective on life. Also his kind hearted friendship. He is a special one, like no other. I am beyond grateful for the time I got to spend with him.
Jim, thank you for always being there and for all that you gave to us! You will be truly missed (These pictures are from last year when we took Jim on tour with Parks Staff to look at all the project going on in Lake Oswego)
