Dear Kay,
I believe you taught my senior family living class at Highland Springs High School in 1977. I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your precious son. It is obvious he was a wonderful man and a loving son, brother, and father. My father, a retired Henrico County police officer who was shot in the line of duty in the 1980's, just passsed away and the pain is still fresh. So please know that I feel deeply for you and that my prayers are with you and your family. What a blesing to know that Jamie is with his Father now and at peace.

To the Sears Family: Jamie and I attended elementary, middle and high school together. I remember playing kick ball with him and all the other kids in the neighborhood for hours. We were in several classes together throughout our school years. Once in high school, classes and friends separated us more and more, but I always considered him a good friend. It was great to hear what a wonderful father and husband he had become. I last heard about him at our 20th high school reunion. I did see him at Southpark Mall about 6 months ago. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family will continue to be in my prayers.

I went to school(Tucker) w/ Jamie. We were in the same typing class. He was so nice, and I am so happy to see what a loving family man he became. It is no surprise to me, that he was so respected and loved. I am happy to have known him. He leaves a wonderful legacy behind. My prayers are with his family and children. He was a great man.

Dear Jessica, Luke, Claire and Noah, and Mr. and Mrs. Sears and Matt ~ words cannot express to you how heartbroken I feel at your loss...Jamie was not only the wonderful husband, father, son and brother to you all, but he was also a friend to all who knew him and a good neighbor as well...out street will never be the same without his police car there, reassuring us that even though we didn't always see him, we knew he was there looking out for us and making sure our neighborhood was safe. He never hesitated to stop and talk to me whenever he passed by and saw me outside. Just the other night he flashed his spotlight at me as I was backing in my driveway, just saying hello...It is so hard for us to comprehend why these things happen, but we must have faith that God needed him. I know you will remain strong in your faith that you will be together again one day but until then rest assured that he is safe and watching over you and, in true Jamie fashion, watching over everyone else. Love and sincere sympathy to you all ~ Mary Beth Cole

To all of Jamie's family and loved ones- We have been out of town on a family vacation and we came home to find out this terrible and heart breaking news. Please know how sorry we are for your loss. Jamie was a friend and kind soul to the core. We meet him in college and even though we did not see him very often we still considered him to be a friend. When we did run into one another he was there with a kind word and an update about Jessica, the children or his Mom and Dad. He will be deeply missed by all. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. With love and sadness, Laura and Charlie Domalik

Dear Sears family:
I send my sincere condolences to you. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Jaimie and remember him as a friendly face when not everyone was.
As a defense attorney, I appeared occasionally in Colonial Heights. Jamie took care to approach me and ask after me. I did not know that Jamie was with the force and would not have recognized him, but he was a friendly enough person to approach me and ask after me and my family.
I was greatly saddened to hear of his untimely death, and I wanted you to know that he will be missed by people throughout the community. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Kay, Tommy, Matt and Celine, and to Jamie's wife and children; it's been a long time since our paths crossed at Emmanuel. I recall you and your family with great fondness. My deepest sympathies go out to you for your loss. I know Jamie was a fine man. He will be missed by all who have been fortunate enough to know him.
I ran into Jamie at the mall one day several years ago. It was so good to see him and recall memories from our years at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you; I pray that God will be with you and comfort you in this especially sad time in your lives. Sincerely, Linda (Mele) Wade

To Jamie's wife and children, parents (Tommy and Kay), brother (Matt). My sympathies are with you all. It has been many years since I last saw Jamie. My memories of him mainly go back to teenage years at Emmanuel Church. I had last seen him back in 92 in Colonial Heights. I think I was walking on the outside of South Park mall when he came up in his police cruiser and hit me with the sirens. We had a good catch up for about an hour then, as it had been several years since I had seen him then.
I hope you all can find comfort in remembering his life and the friendship he brought to all who knew him.
Joanne and I wish to express our deepest condolences to you all.

I attended elementary, middle, high school and college with Jamie. He lived in my neighborhood, where as youngsters we played football on the Robertshaw property across from my home. He was a great golfer for one so young and we all envied him. He was very knowledgeable in sports statistics. Jamie was a clean-cut, all-round great guy, and admired by all of us. I remember the great time we all had at our J. R. Tucker High School Tenth Anniversary Reunion. Without question, Colonial Heights could boast no finer police officer than Lieutenant James H. Sears. Jamie will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My profound sympathy to his parents, brother, wife, children and uncle. May you feel God’s presence as you grieve for your loved one, and find solace in the knowledge that he is eternally in His care.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I met Jamie back in 1990 at 7 11 South on the Blvd. Wilbert and I was working that night and out of nowhere came all these VSU kids and before we knew it, also came CHPD. Jamie was one of the several officer's. Two of the officer's stayed at the door. Jamie and 2 more officer's was inside with us. Jamie stood at the end of the counter making sure we would be alright. After everything had calmed down that night, Jamie came back and checked on us several times and he also checked in on us the rest of the weekend. Even after all these years, there are somethings a person doesn't forget. I heard somewhere that sometimes we have a guardian angel to watch over us and that night and weekend he was just that for Wilbert and I. He was a caring and wonderful person and will be missed. May God be with and Bless you and your family.
