James Sexton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 21, 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce James Robert "Bob" Sexton, 64, of Knoxville, TN, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on June 13, 2024. He was a beloved husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather best known for his charismatic and caring personality. Bob was a hard worker and a great friend who never met a stranger.

After graduating from Central High School, where he was a football star in his own right, Bob was a restaurant owner and operator, a Foodcity Butcher, and an entrepreneur who believed your only limit was the size of your dreams. Outside of work, he enjoyed cooking, golfing, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a Parrothead and huge UT fan who enjoyed cheering for every Vol sport.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly, children Jonathan (Anne) Alley, Jennifer and Gabe Sexton, grandchildren Gus, Zeke, and baby James, his older sister Sharon and nephew Andrew. He is also leaving behind a beloved extended family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bob Sexton and Jeanne Ferrill, step-father Carl Ferrill, grandparents James and Lassie Sexton, and Lester and Mildred Dodson.

Bob will be remembered for his kindness, charm, patriotism, and love of his family and dogs. He will be deeply missed .

A memorial service will be held for family and friends to honor and celebrate Bob's life at a future date.

When I think of my cousin Bob, my immediate impulse is to smile and then laugh. Growing up with him was such wonderful entertainment! He was funny without even trying to be funny. We really did have some interesting escapades at Mamaw and Papaw´s house. We cracked and ate black walnuts from the tree out back, tried dry dog food together, and invented many interesting games to entertain ourselves. His heart was big and kind, and he was just a great guy. If you knew him, I bet you cannot think of him without smiling. I really hate that he is gone too soon. To Sharon, Kelly, Jennifer, and Gabe: I´m so sorry you have to walk through this loss. I know that you know that he will ever be watching over you all. Love you.

Kelly has always been like another sister in my family and I had the pleasure of a front row seat when her and Bob fell in love and the rest was history. We also got to be pregnant together with another sister, Linda Wright who also just passed 2 weeks ago. Our children, Jennifer, Sawyer, and Jacob were born within a couple of months of each other which further strengthened our family bond. This is hard stuff and I´m so grateful that Bob was part of a strong, loving family and enjoyed such great friends. These are the people whose love will get Kelly, their children and grandchildren through the toughest of times as they piece together a new existence without Bob. I´ll certainly always remain a phone call away. Love You! Nancy

I'm so sad to hear of Bob's passing. My family lived next door to his dad when we were kids. Bob was always a nice guy and I know he will be sorely missed by his family. So sorry for your loss.

Kelly. I am Cindi's Mom. It meant so much to me and my family when he spent the time in the hospital with her. I have thought of him often. I wish I could help you with the kindness he always gave to the 3 of us. . I am just so sad for you and his children. Him and Cindi can laugh at all the trouble they got into in their teen years now ! He spoke so highly of you. Find your peace

I will remember all the laughter growing up with Bob and always reconnecting in Knoxville at our grandparent's home. He had an inner light, along with a mischievous spirit, and laugh that would fill the room. He is gone way too soon, but we will meet again... I'll just follow the laughter and find you. XO

I'm not sure how to exist in a world where you don't. But out of all the things you taught me, perseverance was one of the biggest. We will get through this dad. We love and miss you so much.
