In less than a month, we will gather to celebrate our 50th college reunion. There will be a Mass on Friday evening for all of our deceased brothers. I will especially remember my good friend Jim.

I had the pleasure of being Jim's Optometrist for the past 15 years or so. I asked my staff where he was since he was due to come in for his eye care. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
We always had a good time whenever Jim came in. Even the last 5 or so years when it was so difficult on so many levels he was smiling and hoping to be back on the golf course as long as he could.
I will miss his visits and send me condolences to the Shanahan family.
Jim is truly in a far better place.... on the green.

I met Jim during our freshman year at Notre Dame and had many classes with him since we were both Finance majors. He was always such a nice guy, friendly, smart and smiling. I would see him at our reunions and enjoyed spending some time with him. I am sorry he had such a rough 3.5 years. He was clearly one of the good guys,
RIP.

I myself was out of commission late in 2015 until March of 2016. Only very recently did I come to learn that Jim had transitioned. He was a fine man and a "rock" in my life. My condolences to his family.
I know you remain by our sides, Jim. I will never forget you.

I met Jim while serving on the Munster Town Council in the 1990s. Now, as Munster Clerk-Treasurer, I reflect on how much Jim taught me about municipal bonds and I am thankful for the time he devoted to all his clients. When I called Jim on his cell phone, my first question was always, "All right, where are you?" Sometimes he was in his office, other times he was on a golf course. As a matter of fact, he was often on a golf course when I called. I also enjoyed singing Christmas carols with Jim in the hospitality suite of the Indiana Society of Chicago. I will forever remember and miss him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I have long missed Jim . I wish he had been in the same offices as me and not gone to Chicago. I also missed Becky.

Becky, as an old law school classmate, it took my breath away when I learned of Jim's passing. Jim was such a talented and well rounded person, admired and appreciated by many. He died far too young. My deepest condolences and best wishes to you and your family.

When I entered public finance as a 52 yr. old rookie, Jim treated me from the beginning with the utmost respect. He was the ultimate professional yet always friendly and respectful toward everyone in the room, no matter the person's "rank". His tactful guidance helped solve many a tough issue, and his closings always ran smoothly. I am deeply saddened by his passing, but I'm at peace knowing that heaven has gained a good man.
