James Shatswell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2024.
James Ray Shatswell, 72, passed away on July 25, 2024, in Parker, Colorado. Born on May 27, 1952, Jim grew up attending Arvin High School and later proudly served in the Army's prestigious 82nd Airborne for three years. His career spanned over four decades in the oil industry, where he worked for Exxon, Texaco, and Shell, retiring from Shell in 2018.

Jim was a man of many talents and interests. He was an exceptional guitar player and an avid golfer. The love he had for his wife Lucy was first above all.

His passion for cars often found him under the hood alongside his son, B.J.

Jim's jovial spirit shone brightest through his daily "Dad jokes," which he joyfully shared with friends, family, and any new audience he could find. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and his life was deeply rooted in his love for them.

Jim was a Christian and member of Christ Cathedral Church in Bakersfield, CA,. His faith and fellowship were integral parts of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Trujillo-Shatswell; sons, B.J. Coronado and his wife Melissa Nelson-Coronado, and Lucan Coronado; daughter, Michelle Martinez and her husband Agustine Martinez; and grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Amanda, Ethan, Ariel, Jonathan, Israel, Madelyn, and Hector. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Joy Leight, and brother, Darrell Ford.

Memorial services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO 80235. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local Veterans services in honor of Jim's dedication and service.

Jim's legacy of laughter, love, and service will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

I was lucky enough to get to work with this crazy guy before he retired. He was responsible for many laughs every shift. I know he has moved on to bigger and better things now, but grateful I had a chance to work with him! RIP Jimbo.

Jimbo and I have been friends for over 18 years. I wish it was more.
He was talented, kind, funny, and giving. He defined the word "friend". His passion for his family was above all else. As he put it to me not too long ago "enjoy everyone". We will all miss him. Until we meet again dear friend

I meant my dad when I was 16 years old. He took me and my brothers in with open arms. He was the best papa our kids could have ever asked for. He spoiled my mom, she was his queen. He did anything to make her happy. He stoled her heart and ours. He was a very funny man with all his jokes. It was never a dull moment with him. He spoiled me too and my kids loved him with all our hearts. We miss his so much. It's so weird that he's not with us anymore. Until me mean again. I love you dad, Jim,papa.....

Our trips to Houston to visit Jim and Lucy are some of my best memories.
They were such gracious hosts.
We played golf, drove to Galveston, went sightseeing and shopping.
Jim was overly generous and never let me pick up the dinner tab.
I enjoyed talking about guitars with Jim and feel blessed that I got to see him a week before he passed. We shared videos of our guitar collections and songs we were working on.
We miss you dearly.

I worked with Jim for 20 years, first at Kern oil and refining then I got us both jobs at Shell Oil, played many many rounds of golf together, he was a great guy I left Texas in 2007 and unfortunately did not stay in touch, but will always remember his quick wit and awesome sense of humor!! RIP Buddy!!

My prayers and condolences for Jim's family & friends.
I had the pleasure of working with Jim at Shell for 5 years before he retired. Jim was a straight forward, funny, good guy.
I was fortunate enough to hear him play his guitar, he dearly enjoyed playing! I can't close without mentioning his ornery @$$ grin! RIP Peace Brother
