Elizabethtown, Kentucky - James B. Skees, 71, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin.
He was born September 19, 1949 in Lexington, Kentucky, graduated from Murray State University and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Jim was a member of the Serenity Club and the third generation owner/agent at State Farm, now known as Jim Skees State Farm Insurance Agency in Elizabethtown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Potter Skees; his parents, Hilary Richard Skees, Sr. and Eileen Kelley Skees; and four siblings, Mark Kelley Skees, David Vahey Skees, Stephanie Marie Skees, and Patrick O'Brian Skees.
He is survived by one brother, Hilary Skees (Sue) of Lexington; two sisters, Anne Skees Baird (Roger) of Carlisle, and Rebecca Skees Vonderheide (Joel) of Lexington; two step-daughters, Debra Sutton Burke (Steven) and Virginia Sutton Powell (Gary); 11 nieces and nephews; and 17 grand nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be at St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown on Wednesday, June 2, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to St. James Catholic Church, 307 W. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown, KY 42701.

Jim Skees, you will be missed my friend. Larry and I have often joked that it is your fault that I have been in service to those around me for so long. Thank you for telling me I had to be, it certainly has given me a life beyond anything we could have dreamt of. We love you.
