James SOWERS Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from May 3 to May 4, 2017.

SOWERS, James "Jamie" Ian
December 12, 1982 – Calgary, Alberta
April 29, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our dear son and brother, James Sowers of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the age of 34 years.
James was born in Calgary, Alberta to parents John and Susan Sowerbutts of Calgary, Alberta. Even from his earliest years, Jamie was endearing in his ways; his sense of humour amused us, his creativity impressed us and his intelligence drew our admiration. Jamie brought so much joy to his Grandparents on holiday visits to Ontario. He was active and amusing, and always inquisitive. Perhaps some of you reading this may remember him from St. Jude School, St. Stephen's, or Bishop Carroll High School and smile with fond memories. During his years at the University of Lethbridge while attaining his B.A. degree, Jamie became passionate about producing and playing music, and this passion endured. Jamie thoroughly enjoyed his opportunities to travel the world, which included a working stint with Club Med in the Caribbean, living and working in the music field in New York City, music festivals in Mexico, touring Southeast Asia and New Zealand for five months. A highlight of his Southeast Asia sojourn was the achievement of Rescue Diver level with PADI. It had been his dream to one day achieve Master Diver status. Jamie and his brother, Matt, shared a love of sports and music, and had a mutual appreciation of movies and the comedy network. We cherish these happy memories and know in our hearts that solace is to be found in them.
James is survived by his parents John and Susan, brother Matthew of Lethbridge, Alberta, his Uncle Ross De Grandis, Uncle Barry and Aunt Sue De Grandis, Uncle Don and Aunt Denese De Grandis, and Uncle David Sowerbutts, all of Ontario. He is also survived by his cousins and extended family in Ontario, Florida, and New Zealand.
James was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Tom and Betty De Grandis of Mississauga, Ontario; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Dorothy Sowerbutts of Mississauga, Ontario and his Aunt Lynn De Grandis of Oakville, Ontario.
Thank you to all of our friends and family for reaching out to us in what has been a difficult journey.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street SW Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Credit, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division. website: www.cmha.calgary.ab.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
In living memory of James Sowers, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
