James "Jim" Tanner, 91, of Panama City Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. He was born on October 30, 1932, in Vandergrift, PA, the son of Percy and Jessie Tanner. James was a graduate of Bucknell University in 1954, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation, he served two years in the United States Army.

On June 15, 1957, James married his college sweetheart, Muriel Anne Hincken, in Philadelphia, PA. They started their family in Plymouth Meeting, PA, until moving to Aurora, Ohio in 1978. James had a successful career in the steel business, starting at Horace T. Potts & Company. He later worked as a Purchasing Agent for MetalSource and then moved to a Sales role with Ohio Alloys Steel Company, where he excelled with his warm personality, reliability, sense of dedication, and ability to relate to people. He continued working and calling on his clients throughout the entire state of Ohio until his mid-80s.

In retirement, James moved to the Panama City Beach area in 2021, where he was lovingly cared for by his daughter Karen and her husband Bob. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Shaffer, his wife Muriel, and his grandson Alex Tanner. He is survived by his sister Ruth Carleton of Palo Alto, CA; his children, Karen (Robert) Frick of Panama City Beach, FL, James (Anita) Tanner of Greensboro, NC, Kathryn (David) Mitchell of Summersville, WV, and Stephen (Courtney) Tanner of Cincinnati, OH; his grandchildren, Robert Frick, Sara Frick, Evan Tanner, David Mitchell Jr., Michael Mitchell, Shannon Mitchell, Ella Tanner, Lydia Tanner, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 3:00 pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1608 Baker Ct., Panama City, FL 32401. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Ascension Sacred Heart Bay located at 615 N. Bonita Ave., Panama City, FL 32401, or the Alex Tanner Memorial Scholarship at St. Louis University (please make the check payable to St. Louis University and mail to: Steve Tanner, 7175 Foxview Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45230).
