This is the saddest news. I knew Jim in my late teens to early twenties. I spent a lot of time with the "three amigos" from St. Phillips Basilica high school, Jim, Tom and Mike. I saw the beginnings of his love of medicine, wood working and food. My fondest memory of Jim is when we were all at a Woody Allen concert, sitting in the balcony because nosebleed seats were all college students could afford, and Jim started to laugh at a story Woody was telling. Who could ever forget Jim's hearty and unique laugh. Woody Allen paused his routine to stare up at the balcony to see where that laugh was coming from. We were all laughing so hard but not at Woody. We were laughing at and with Jim. He did that, brought smiles and laughter where ever he was. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched. My sincerest condolences to Nancy, his children, his family and to all who knew Jim. Vicki & Dale Gacki

Dr Thomas was one of my greatest mentors as a young nurse in the ER. I am so blessed to have worked with him. We had a great friendship and I will always feel privileged to have had that. I am so sorry for the families loss. I have so many great memories that bring a smile to me. He sang rubber ducky to the Littles we sutured...I loved working with him! He was an amazing human being!

I worker very briefly in the home I was Jims caregiver. He was a lovely man, very bright and extremely witty. He kept me on my toes while I watched over him. I used to go upstairs and find him struggling to get his audio book to play, so I insisted he let me help him. His books always held such mystery and wisdom in them. We talked about his favorite Italian dishes. You always could feel his warm presence in the room and he was quite a hoot as well. There was times where I would misunderstand him or think I was messing up and he say "Oh I'm just BS-ing ya." He made me laugh when it came to his breakfast he asked me to be loads of butter on his toast so it just covered and dripped all over the bread. I enjoyed working for him in the time I did and there were days I missed due to my own health reasons. I truly give Nancy my condolences. Jim was very blessed to have such a caring woman. And I pray you can continue to be so graceful in this terrible time.
