Greenwood, LA- Please don't be alarmed if you hear today that Durell Tuberville is dead. Nothing could be further from the truth. Durell is more alive today than he's ever been! He is walking those promised streets of gold, waiting to hear those cherished words, "Well Done."
Durell began "Living the Miracle" he has testified of for the past 58 months in a far greater reality on Sunday, August 13, 2017. He would ask that we celebrate his 'promotion' and not grieve our loss as it is his gain! It was his greatest hope that his life, example, and faith would inspire others to live each day acknowledging the miracles that surround us all.
James Durell Tuberville, (Durell) was born on October 25, 1958, in Shreveport, LA and went to be with our Lord on August 13, 2017 following a faith inspiring valiant fight.
He attended Grawood Christian School, was a graduate of Southwood High School, Southwestern Assemblies of God College, Louisiana Tech University, and Capella University.
The early years of Durell's ministry were served at Luna and Natchitoches, LA as youth pastor. He later served as Pastor of Bethel Assembly of God, in Shreveport for more than 11 years. Durell was honored to be a member of the Shreveport Fire Department for over 20 years, where he was known simply as Chaplain or Preacher. "Rescuing the Rescuer" would continue to be his passion for more than 30 years. Dr. Tuberville played an integral role in directing and providing CISM services for several national disasters: the bombing of the Murrah P. Federal Building, OKC; Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; 9/11, and the devastating earthquakes in Haiti in 2010.
At the time of his death, Dr. Tuberville served as Counselor on the Pastoral staff at Shreveport Community Church and as President of Personal Solutions, Inc. Durell served as Chaplain for the Caddo Parish Sherriff's Office; Caddo Fire District 3, and as National Chaplain of the Firefighters' motorcycle club, BKMC until the time of his death. He poured out his life helping people through their most difficult days. Durell LOVED: His Lord, his family, his church, people. He was a man's man, a Godly man, and a devoted family man.
Durell was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Moore Tuberville.
He leaves behind his childhood sweetheart, wife and soulmate of over 40 years, Susan McKinnon Tuberville; Durell is survived by two sons who were the pride of his life, Joshua Durell Tuberville and wife Claleigh of Huntsville, AR; Dustin Bruce Tuberville and wife Lindsey of Bethany, LA; five grandsons who brought him his greatest joy, Jackson Davis Tuberville, Tristan Bryce Tuberville, Elijah Morgan Tuberville, all of Bethany, LA, Asa Cash Tuberville and Angus Creed Tuberville of Huntsville, AR; his father, J.D. Tuberville of Waskom, TX; two sisters, Denise Tuberville Thomas and husband, Greg of Ruston, LA; Darla Tuberville Costlow and husband, Monty of Athens, TX.
Susan and the family would like to express a special thanks to the extraordinary family of First Responders and Emergency Workers including Caddo Fire District 3 & Chief E Mitchell; SFD, both current and retired; members of the BKMC who have poured out their lives and love to support Durell and Susan throughout this journey. Special thanks to the family of SCC, the Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment teams: chemo, radiation & hospice groups that 'wrapped' Durell in their love and care for the past 5 years. A most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Massengill for his compassion, love, excellent care and dedication always above and beyond the call!
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made to the Children's Burn Camp, Camp I'm Still Me, in memory of Durell through the local, Shreveport Chapter of the Brothers' Keepers Motorcycle Club.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Dr. James Durell Tuberville, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Shreveport Community Church. Officiating will be Pastor Denny Duron, Bossier City Fire Chaplain, Craig Kennedy along with past Shreveport Fire Chief, Bo Roberts. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Shreveport Community Church.
Honoring Durell as pallbearers will be: David Glass, Mark Connella, Tim Thames, Henry Simons, John Fulco, Ernest Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Security Team and Usher Corp. of SCC.

I came to know Durell in early 90's with the fire service and training for CISM through him and through the years considered him a close friend and brother. In later years as I was facing and going through what I saw as the worst times of my life and losing everything and at that time everyone that I loved Durell and Bo came to me and showed me the true meaning of God's love and forgiveness and he continued to show it as he counseled me. I can say that God used Durell to bring me to know and understand God's love and forgiveness and the miracle of rebuilding a totally broken man. God bless you and your precious family. Durell we will miss you but will see you in God's time. You were truly a great man of God and a man and heaven is rejoicing with your arrival as God says to you Well done my good and faithful servant enter into thy heavenly home. I'm not sure I ever met Durell Tuberville in person but I met him through his book. It was - and is- a blessing to me. I used it for a devotional and everybody in the class was touched by his unwavering faith in God. I expect to meet Durell in Heaven and thank him for sharing his life to lift others.
Losing a loved one hurts! But Remember, Durell is not lost. We know just exactly where he is! Our job is to follow his example of faithfulness and meet him in Heaven one day. God hold the Tuberville family in His great arms of love.

As a classmate of Durell's at Southwood, I had the pleasure of knowing him. I also knew him through Community Bible Church. I watched him grow from a hot headed youth with issues to a confident man who served God. He was at his Dad's office one day when I delivered a package to his Dad. D. so glad that I worked for you those 38 years ago because it was at that time that I met Durrell and Susan when he was following his call to the ministry and attending Bible school. I did not know Durell personally, but I did call him when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. He was very uplifting and gave me a sense that he had known me all my life. I appreciated the time he took with me- a stranger- but he took the time. I read his book and I know that anyone who came in contact with him probably felt the same way that I did. My thoughts and prayers to the family of Dr. Tuberville. During a very difficult time in my adolescent years, Brother Tuberville (as he was known then) made weekly trips to visit me in the hospital for the four months that I was there. I looked forward to those visits every Tuesday afternoon. I thought he was the coolest person on earth as he drove his motorcycle to come visit. It's been 30 years, but the messages that he brought to me have gotten me through many dark times. He truly was a bright light and will be missed.

Throughtout my childhood, I heard his name but never met him. When someone spoke of him, they always had a smile. He was portrayed as a kind and loving man and it was immediately known that he had a strong relationship with our Lord, even if you didn't know him. In my adult life, I started seeing him at BKMC events here and there and he was always smiling as well. I'll always remember his face. His inspiration and faith shown through it. Sorry for the lost of such a great spirit but I know he's got that smile.

I have always been proud to be a part of the Tuberville family, at least married into it! I have always thought of Durell as the glue & strength of the family. He has always been involved in so many things and with so many people it was like he was a celebrity but when you talked to him you always felt like his focus was only on you & your conversation at that time. I never ask him to do me a favor that he did not do. I especially remember him speaking to my nursing class on dealing with death. He was so good and entertaining and I was so proud to tell everyone he was my cousin. I know he is rejoicing in Heaven but we sure will miss him until we see him again. One of the truly good ones! R. I. P. Truly spread God's word, and helped many fire and polic personnel through hard times! Never saw him without a smile! Great man, and great speaker! Very much loved!!

Meeting Durell was a blessing! I met him long ago at a Fire Chiefs meeting, he made a great and lasting impression upon me. I am saddened by his passing yet comforted by knowing that he is in heaven with our Lord. Our sympathies for the family and prayers up lifted.

I didn't know him except through his book that his Sister Darla gave me when I first was diagnosed with cancer. He's life inspired me to keep on living and to begin living the blessings in my life. He also showed me that Ministry for me was not over by his example of ministering to others. Thankful for the life he lived and very sorry for your loss

"Gone From My Sight "
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" "Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!" And that is dying.

Pastor Tuberville you so inspired me with your book about how you and your family were dealing with your cancer, you encouraged me when I was dealing with my breast cancer.
