James Watson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 21, 2013.
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him. ~Abraham Lincoln James "Terry" Watson was born December 9, 1970 to Paul and Henrietta Watson of Holly Ridge, Louisiana. Terry had one older sibling, Paul "Scott" Watson. Terry resided in Holly Ridge with his family until he graduated high school. As a child, Terry enjoyed riding motorcycles as well as working on them with his brother. At an early age, Terry developed a strong work ethic working with his father in their family owned business. Terry enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, and running which he continued to enjoy all of his life. He lived his life to the fullest and inspired those who were around him to do the same. Terry was interested in law enforcement as a young teen-ager and incredibly motivated to achieve his goal. After graduating from Holly Ridge High School, Terry attended Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) where he obtained a degree in Criminal Justice. While pursuing his degree, Terry was employed by the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office as a patrol officer and later as a narcotics investigator. After he obtained his degree, Watson was hired by the US Marshall's office and was assigned to Biloxi, Mississippi. After a two year tour with the Marshall's office, he achieved his lifelong goal and was hired by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in which he devoted 13 years of service. In addition to serving in Colombia, Special Agent Watson has served in Honolulu, Hawaii and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also served on three deployments to Afghanistan conducting dangerous counter-narcotics missions as a member of DEA's FAST program. Prior to his DEA service, Special Agent Watson worked for the U.S. Marshals Service and served in the United States Army. Funeral services for James "Terry" Watson, 42, of Cartagena, Colombia formerly of Rayville, LA were held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Richland Art Center in Rayville, LA with Adm. Michele Leonhart, Dr. Eddie Wren, and Attorney General, Eric Holder, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the McKnight Cemetery, Holly Ridge, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Survivors include the love of his life and soul mate, Fadia Margarita De La Rosa Watson; father and his wife, Paul and Linda Watson; mother, Henrietta Watson and Billy Collins; brother, Scott Watson and Wana Evans and nephew, Conner Watson; paternal grandmother, Pauline Watson; his step brother, Chris Mitchell and wife, Chelsea and their children, Christian and Larkin. Pallbearers were Neal Harwell, Daniel Grissom, Dale Carter, Perry Flemming, Randal Lowery, and Danny Fuller. Honorary pallbearers were Luther Horn and Owen Rockett. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Drug Enforcement Administration for all their support, Richland Parish Sheriff, Lee Harrell and his department, and Trooper, Daniel Grissom. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Paul and Henrietta I deeply regret your loss. Every time I venture home and take a ride through the "country" I always wonder what happened to the one's I grew up around. While I am saddened by your tragic loss, I feel honored that I knew Terry and thank him for his service and sacrifice. We sleep at night because of Terry and others like him that stand the post. God Bless

True honor and courage come not from the things everyone sees you do and congratulates you for, but from those most difficult moments when you are alone. Terry, you will not be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Terry in Cartagena for two years. He had been to my apartment on several occasions for dinner. He was one of the nicest persons I have ever met. A true gentleman. He was always willing to help others and I never heard him raise his voice once. That was the kind of person he was. Again I am so sorry for your loss.
