BLOOMSBURG - James N. Wintersteen, 57, of 209 W. Ninth St., died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was admitted late Tuesday. He was in failing health since May 2003.
He was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Bloomsburg, the only child of the late Clyde and Dorothy (Kopitsky) Wintersteen. He married the former Joyce E. Kile, who survives. They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on July 25.
Jim spent his early life in Catawissa, graduating from Southern Area High School in 1966, after which he moved to Bloomsburg.
Mr. Wintersteen was a member of the Army Reserves at the time of the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a truck driver for 35 years by Furman Foods Inc., Northumberland.
Jim was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.
He also belonged to Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; Danville Moose Lodge; Continental Fire Company, Danville; Bloomsburg Fire Department; and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Joyce, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd J. and Beverly A. Wintersteen and David J. and Eliza A. Wintersteen, all of Bloomsburg; and one granddaughter, Mia D. Wintersteen. He was the last of his immediate family and is also survived by aunts and uncles.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, where a memorial service will follow at 2 with the Rev. John E. Winckler, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mausdale, officiating.
The family will provide flowers and suggests contributions in Jim's memory be made to the Columbia County Unit, American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

MS. JOYCE & FAMILY:
WE SEND OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO EACH AND EVERYONE. MR JIM WAS A TERRIFIC FRIEND. HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FRIEND AND MADE EVERYONE ELSE SMILE AS WELL. I BELIEVE IN MY HEART GOD HAD ANOTHER PLAN FOR MR. JIM. HE NOW WILL BE MR. MEL'S "GUARDIAN ANGEL", TO PROTECT HIM AND TO KEEP HIM SAFE. KEEP ALL THE MEMORIES ALIVE IN YOUR HEART. TIME WILL HEAL ALL WOUNDS. ONCE AGAIN, THE MILTON WAREHOUSE SENDS YOU THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY. A FRIEND THAT WILL BE MISSED GREATLY.
