James Woods Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 8, 2025.
James "Chicago William Woods passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, in San Francisco, California, surrounded by his beloved daughter, Christina, and son-in-law, Ramon Gibbons Jr. Born on November 25, 1943, in Madisonville, Kentucky, James was the cherished son of Nevaline Hayden and George Woods.

James spent his formative years in Detroit, Michigan, where he was raised by his mother and stepfather alongside his four younger siblings. In the late 1970s, he relocated to San Francisco, California, where he built a fulfilling life and established deep connections within the community. Over the years, James worked in various roles that reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. In the 1980s, he served as a security guard for Glide Memorial Church-a role that placed him at the heart of a vibrant and compassionate community. Later, in the early to mid-2000s, he managed the staging crew for an interior design company.

Among all of James's accomplishments and experiences, nothing brought him greater joy than becoming a father. In 1988, he welcomed his daughter Christina into the world-a moment that remained one of his proudest and most cherished milestones. His love for her was unwavering, and their bond was a source of immense happiness throughout his life.

James will be remembered for his kindness, resilience, and deep love for those around him. His presence touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will not be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on February 15, 2025, in Sacramento, California. Those who wish to attend may email [email protected] for details.

For family members in Detroit or Kentucky who would like to connect with Christina during this time of remembrance, she welcomes you to reach out via the email address listed above.

James's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
