James Zielan

James Zielan, 61, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.

Born on July 7, 1963, in Spokane, WA, in 1974 Jim's family moved to southern California, where he graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1981. In 1989, he moved to Buffalo, NY, where he built a multifaceted career as a musician, photographer-specializing in medical photography-and manager of an orthopedic medical practice.

Jim was a gifted musician whose primary instrument was the bass guitar, though he played several others as well. Over the years, he was a member of numerous bands, including Robbie Rist and Framework, Lodgic, Paul Pope/Robbie Rist and The Tower of Light Beer Rhythm Section. During the 1980s, he performed at some of Los Angeles' most iconic music venues, such as The Troubadour, Whisky-A-Go-Go, Madame Wong's West, and FM Station. His musical journey also took him on tours along the East Coast.

Beyond music, Jim was an accomplished photographer with a keen eye for capturing moments both artistically and professionally. His passion for photography extended into his work as a medical photographer and remained a lifelong pursuit.

Above all else, Jim cherished his role as a father to his two children, Ryan and Meghan. He found great joy in sharing his love for music, sports, and photography with them. A devoted sports fan, he followed auto racing closely and cheered passionately for the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, L.A. Lakers, and L.A. Dodgers.

Jim is survived by his children Ryan (Chelsea) and Meghan; his mother Christine; siblings Scott Zielan and Patty Egizi (Mike). He was preceded in death by his father Robert Zielan and grandparents Walter and Marguerite Zielan and Bartholemew and Christina O'Reilly.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. In the meantime, those who wish to honor Jim's memory are invited to join in a moment of remembrance on February 28, 2025, at 3 pm EST, 12 pm PST.

Jim's legacy lives on through his music, photography, and the love he shared with his family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
