Jamil Murry Hamady

HAMADY, Jamil Murry - Age 78, of Flint Township, died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. Visitation will be at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek on Saturday 5-8 p.m. and Sunday 1-8 p.m. Funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor J.D. Landis officiating. Burial in Bendle Cemetery. Jamil was born in Baakline, Lebanon on March 17, 1930 to Merhi and Nedda Hamady. He had a store in Beirut, which he owned until he left for the United States. After arriving, he attended Flint Junior College, and then he and Rosalind (Prouse) were married on October 7, 1962. They have three children, Jamal (David) Lucky of Flushing, James (Christena) Hamady of Flushing, Sacha (Marc) Uelmen of Whitmore Lake. When he arrived in this country, he worked at the family grocery business, Hamady Bros. for 18 years until the family sold the stores. Then, after working at GMSPO and also serving as their salaried employees' United Way Campaign co-coordinator for two years, he retired in 1993. His hopes of owning his own businesses again were realized when he established The Bread Basket in 1977, which he owned until it was sold in 2004. His efforts as a successful business owner were honored in 2006 when he was named the Community Contributor of the Year by the American Arab Heritage Council. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Paul and Mitchell Lucky, Aaron and Nathan Hamady, Morgan and Carson Davis, all of Flushing; brother Sami (Samira) Hamady of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Salwa Hamady of Swartz Creek and Alham Hamady of Lebanon; sisters, Jamal Adeeb, Nadia Sefa, Smia (Mouneer) Zeidan, all of Lebanon; mother-in-law, Ruth Prouse of Swartz Creek; brother-in-law Robert Prouse of New York; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Merhi and Nedda and brothers, Saleem, Tamir, Fouad and Nasri. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Hospice.
