Jan Souto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 6, 2024.
Jan was born in Pittsburg, CA on October 9th, 1948. She graduated from Pittsburg HS in 1966, and from Diablo Valley College in 1968 in their Dental Assisting Program.

Jan married John Souto on August 1st, 1971. They have two sons, Eric and Brian, and six grandchildren: Allie, Jake, Dom, Joey, Karly and Nina. John and Jan lived in Antioch for 45 years. In 2016 they moved to Sun City Roseville to be closer to their sons and their families.

Jan was an optimistic person. She was always upbeat, and her enthusiasm was contagious. She chose to approach life from a positive and happy perspective. She was fun to be around. She liked people, and she always looked for the good in a person.

Jan was not one to sit around and do nothing. She loved doing things with her family and friends. She enjoyed going to movies and concerts. She enjoyed traveling. Jan did water aerobics and line dancing with her friends, and she got together with them for happy hour every Thursday. She always enjoyed getting together with her long time friends in Antioch and Pittsburg.

Jan especially enjoyed gardening. Her yard was beautiful. She often said that she would rather do yard work than house work. And Jan loved cats! With all that, she still set aside an hour every day to read books.

Jan was always there for her family and friends. If someone needed help, she was the first one there. Friends said Jan was the energy in their group, the one who always got them together, the one who organized their social activities. Her friends told me that "Jan was so full of life and joy. Her shining light, her laughter, her love of life, will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Jan enjoyed living and she enjoyed her life. She said many times how grateful she was for all the good things she got to experience and all the wonderful people she had met. She never ever took for granted all the blessings in her life.

Jan leaves behind John, her sons Eric and Brian, her six grandchildren, her brother Tom Carroll, her sisters Anne Riebli and Cathy Murphy, and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Carroll, her mother Naomi Carroll, and her brother Robert Carroll.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Placer SPCA, 200 Tahoe Ave. Roseville, CA. 95678, or to the charity of your choice.

Jan's Memorial Service will be held on November 18th at 10:15am at St. Clare's Catholic Church located on 1950 Junction Blvd., Roseville, CA 95747. A reception celebrating Jan's life will be held on site immediately after her Memorial Service.

Mike & I just saw the post from his class of "66 about the passing of Jan, we are so shook & saddened by this. We both have known Jan for many years in school & I knew her in the Parkside neighborhood too. We all joined water aerobics a few years back in Oakley & enjoyed her company & spirit again. She definitely made everyone smile with her up beat personality, then we all moved closer to be with our grandkids. Us in Oregon, them to Roseville & she was also so delighted to be closer to them. Oh what a loss for everyone, we send our sympathy & prayers to her beloved family...

Jan and I were friends for many years. We had lunches together and shopping and talk about ours family .
When we were shopping, we always bought one thing the same. Last year we got a pair of slippers, they were the same color , we really like them . When she got home, she wear the slippers and took a picture of it , and sent it to me , and I did the same with mine and sent to her . We had a big laugh about it. She was a good friend, and I can´t believe I lost my dear friend. Only God can give peace to me and all her family.
Thank you Jan to be a good friend. Love you Jan .

I was her next door neighbor for many years. We shared the love of our gardens and our pets.
But above all we shared the love for our families. I will miss her

Jan and I went through high school together and with Joyce, Diane, Chris and others continued our friendship even after. She was dynamic, always on the go, always cheerful and caring, an amazing friend. The world is a colder place without her. Condolences to the family, much love John...she will never be forgotten, Riccarda
