Jan Whitman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2023.
Janet Whitman, a beautiful 91 year old, blue-eyed, redhead, was proud to be the beloved wife of her soulmate and late husband, Shelly for 68 years.

Her greatest joy was being the loving mother to her four children, Todd Whitman, Cindy (the late Jerry) Rubin, Dan Whitman, and Randi (Dan Daly) Whitman. Being the always proud "Nina", she adored her grandchildren, Jared (Maggie) Rubin, Leigh Rubin, Miles and Cecily Daly.

She was the devoted daughter to the late Ruth and Tom Portman, a cherished sister to Lavon Portman, and the late Sharon Weiner, and aunt, cousin and friend to countless others.

She danced her way through life and overcame the odds time and time again. She loved life too much to ever give up without a fight. Her energy, drive, and positive outlook on life left many in awe, and will continue to inspire all who knew her, including the many students she taught and mentored for over 60 years.

Jan was a fierce, independent, bright, and loving lady who will live on in spirit by all whose lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at Temple Shalom in Naples, Florida (4630 Pine Ridge Rd. ) on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 at 1:00pm.

I just found out that Jan died. I am so sorry to hear this. She and I taught together at Oakridge and I loved her from the moment I met her. She was so charming, and vivacious. We had grown apart since I retired. Jan was so kind and warm hearted. Our world was a better place because of her.

Dear Todd, Cindy, Danny, Randi and family,
Your mom was a courageous, beautiful and remarkable person. I see so many of her attributes and qualities reflected in all of you - her fierce devotion to family and friends, her passion for reading,, dance, films, education, music, and her synagogue. She took a genuine interest in learning people“s stories and making them feel comfortable. She was well loved and supported by all of you. I hope the beautiful memories of her will bring you comfort.
