Jane Randolph Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2024.
Jane Grace Dowden Anthony Randolph died in her home in Spartanburg, SC, on May 21, 2024, just two days shy of the age of 72. Jane is survived by her sister, Mary Beth Dowden; her children, Aaron Anthony, Esther Grace Uribe, and Lydia Anthony Lundgren; her grandchildren, Shakti Anthony, Nova Uribe, and Asha Anthony; and her second husband, James Randolph. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, Verner "Ed" Anthony.

Jane was born in Nashville, TN on May 23, 1952, to Robert Ross Dowden and Mary Elizabeth Ryan Dowden. She married Ed in Houston, TX on July 12, 1974. Their marriage exemplified the unconditional love of Christ and the church. Together, they created a welcoming home where people were accepted and felt drawn to their loving care.

Jane had a nurturing heart, full of love, compassion, kindness, and hospitality. She had the voice of an angel, and she brought joy to all who heard her sing. Her middle name was fitting, for she was full of grace as she enjoyed dancing throughout her life. She was known as "Miss Story," or "The Storytime Lady" at the Spartanburg Central Library. She left a legacy of literacy, spreading a love of reading to her own children and grandchildren, as well as all the children who visited her in the library.

Jane will be remembered for her laughter, her love, and her caring spirit. Her smile could light up a room, and her laugh was contagious. She loved to open her home and share meals with others, feeding their souls as well as their bodies. Although her light was extinguished far too soon, her spark lives on in the many lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held in Russellville, KY, on September 14, 2024. Visitation begins at 11:00 AM, the service will be held at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 159 W 6th St, Russellville, KY 42276. Ashes will be interred at the cemetery following the service, and the church will provide a meal for family and friends afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the deGraffenried Chorale in memory of Jane. Envelopes will be available at the church or donations may be mailed to:

Jane and I were roommates when we were both single sisters in the Church in Houston in 1972 and 1973. I remember she had a pretty voice and played the guitar. We both married and moved around a lot and only saw each other a few times in the subsequent years, but I remember seeing her children when they were very small, otherwise we lost track of each other. My condolences to her husband and extended family..she was a very sweet sister in my memory and in a significant time in my life......Connie (Sweeney) Bullock

Jane was a valued member of my Friday night Bible study. I will always have fond memories of her input to Bible study, her prayers, her kindness and devotion to the Lord. The family is in my prayers. May she rest in peace.

I knew Jane for 17 years. We met at her home to make music together and worked at the library together. I occasionally attended church with her. She was a blessing in my life.
