Jane Young-Howard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2023.
Jane Courtney Young-Howard passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the age of 86. Jane was born on November 27, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas and was adopted 5 days later by Mr. & Mrs. Fred R. Hettler. The Hettler's had a daughter at the time who had longed for a baby sister. The Hettler's moved from San Antonio to Shreveport, LA where Jane spent her childhood and early adult life. Many years later, Jane located her birth family and had a wonderful relationship with them. Jane was raised in a Christian home by the best parents in the world. She graduated from Baylor University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Jane was an educator and taught for over 30 years, starting with a short period in Houston ISD with the remainder of her career spent in Klein ISD (Northampton Elementary) where she made many long-lasting friendships. Jane was a 40+ year member of Champion Forest Baptist Church. Jane was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Harold L. Young, parents Fred and Esta Hettler, sister Mary Ann Rushing and husband Dr. Robert Rushing, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jane remarried in 2013 to Dr. W.F. Howard, whom she met at Baylor University.

Family left to cherish her memory are her son Craig Young and wife Jeni, youngest son Scott Young, granddaughter Taylor, and grandson Hayden. Taylor and Hayden were the lights of her life. Jane is also survived by her precious niece Carol Rustowicz and her husband Bob, and special nephews Rob Hallquist (Martha), Gary Hallquist (Sherrell) and their families, all of which were her sister's children and with whom she has maintained close ties.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 4:00p (visitation at 3:30p) at Champion Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline Rd., Houston, TX 77069. For those who choose, donations in honor of Jane can be made to Champion Forest Baptist Church, Houston Food Bank, SPCA of Houston, or the Salvation Army.

Jane and I were close friends in New Jersey beginning in the 1960s and again in Texas, where we lived near each other for over 40 years. We enjoyed being together, and laughed and had fun with escapades we saw around us and also ones we were involved in. She was so easy-going and I appreciated being with her. I'm sorry she's gone; she had such a zest for life! My condolences to her family.
Love, Sally Lichtenwalter, now living in Santa Cruz, California.

Growing up with her youngest son Scott I shared many days and nights in the company of this Lady. The Young family lived on the first street from the school where Scott and I started many afternoons of cartoons, gocarts, and motorcycles not to mention fishing trips that im sure should be in a record book somewhere. We had an amazing childhood do to the dedication and support of our amazing parents. To this day I won't use the lords name in vien because Mrs Young caught me saying "gosh damit" Mrs Young quickly reprimanded me " Christopher Jordan God knows what your really saying" don't know why I felt the need to share this memory. Maybe to share her dedication to her faith. Idk first thought that came to mind. She was definitely a woman impossible to not love she without a doubt changed and guided everyone she came Into contact with.
Love and condolences to her family.

Sincerely
Chris Jordan
