Janelle (Nelle) Irene Oneal

Janelle (Nelle) Irene Oneal passed away Saturday, September 10th, after a long struggle with dementia. Nelle was a devoted wife to her husband of 50 years, David, and a proud and loving mother to her two children. Nelle was born September 13, 1951, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Virgil and Ruby Tate, and was the youngest of four children.

Nelle was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana O to her grandchildren. She worked at the Adel courthouse in the Auditor's Office for 25 years before retiring in 2012. Nelle enjoyed music, movies, reading, cross stitch, attending performances at the Des Moines Civic Center, traveling, bird watching, working in the garden, and spending time with her family.

Nelle is survived by her husband, David; her children, David (Nicole) and Bradley (Meghan); her grandchildren, Charles and Norah; and her brother, Verle (Pam). She is preceded in passing by her father, Virgil; mother, Ruby; and brothers, Ron and Reggie.

The family cannot find enough words to thank the staff at Lakeside Village Senior home in Panora, Iowa for the excellent care Nelle received in her final months.

A celebration of life will be held in Adel at The First Christian Church (218 N. 9th St.) on Tuesday, September 27th, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a meal served at around 5:30-6:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Adel Food Pantry. Come join the family in bidding a loving farewell to our Nelle.
