Janet Burger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 18 to Apr. 20, 2023.
Janet Dunbar Burger, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was born on March 7, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio to Edith and Henry Dunbar. She passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 in Madison, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended Wittenberg University. Janet married Dr. Harry D. Burger on October 3, 1953, and they had four children. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Edith Dunbar Burger, her husband Harry Dally Burger, and her brother Stephen Robert Dunbar of Springfield, Ohio. Janet is survived by her children, Mrs. Alice (Michael) Guerra of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Ms. Nancy Williams of Austintown, Ohio, and Dr. Eric (Tammy) Burger of Brandon, Mississippi; granddaughters, Dr. Ashley (Dr. Eric) Mencarelli of Anderson, Ohio and Mrs. Nicole (Dr. Patrick) Carry of Denver, Colorado; great grandchildren, James, Charlotte and Jackson Mencarelli of Anderson, Ohio, and Aiden Carry of Denver, Colorado.

Janet and Harry began their life together in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked as Harry attended dental school at The Ohio State University. After graduation, they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Harry was an officer in the United States Army providing dental care to servicemen. Subsequently, they moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where two of their children were born. After serving in the army, Dr. Burger moved the family to Sandusky, Ohio, where he practiced dentistry for a couple of years before they moved to their lifelong home of Fremont, Ohio. Two more children were born in Fremont, and they raised their family there.

Janet was most proud of being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She supported her family at home and worked for many years at Harry's dental office. Janet enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, puzzling, stringing beaded necklaces and traveling with family and friends. Janet and Harry enjoyed many trips to Maui, Hawaii, where they celebrated renewing their vows at their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. Janet loved dogs, and she named their last dog Maui. Janet also cherished her trip to England, where she visited Oliver Cromwell's home and museum of whom she was a direct descendant. She was actively involved in the lives of her two grandchildren, Ashley and Nicole. Janet celebrated all their birthdays, holidays, trips to Disney World, and their many graduations. She was so proud of the women they have become.

Janet was a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school and served on various committees. She served on Memorial Hospitals Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Janet was a devoted friend and maintained lifelong friendships.
