Janet Ruppel Ely

Janet Ruppel Ely of Covington, LA passed away on March 11, 2023, at the age of 75 surrounded by her family. She was born in New Orleans, LA on December 25, 1947 to the late Frederick Alvin Ruppel, Jr. and the late Dorothy Brokmeier Ruppel. Janet was the beloved wife of Richard C. Ely, Sr. for 54 years. Janet is survived by her children, Christine Ely Knobloch (Gene), Richard C. Ely, Jr. (Kim), and Gwendolyn Ely Thomas (Michael) and her grandchildren, Nick Knobloch, Emma Knobloch, Ben Knobloch, Vivian Grace Ely, Liam Ely, Beau Thomas, Blake Thomas and Kate Thomas. Janet is also survived by her brother, Frederick Alvin Ruppel, III (Myriam). Janet graduated from St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School, St. Stephen's High School and St. Mary's Dominican College with a Bachelor of Science degree. She had a long career in medical technology and retired from Children's Hospital. Janet was a devoted mother and grandmother and was active in her children and grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed gardening, planning parties for family and friends and many trips to Navarre Beach where special memories were created. Janet was well loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA, beginning with the rosary at 10:00 a.m. followed by visitation. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 18, 2023 beginning at noon. Janet will be laid to eternal rest in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, LA. Masses in Janet's name preferred in lieu of flowers.
