HARKNESS, Janet (nee Hughes) September 24, 1924 - September 12, 2010 Predeceased by her brother, Lieut. James R. Hughes (1944) and sister, Anne Kathleen German (2006). Janet is survived by her husband of 61 years Allan Harkness, daughters Ruth (Gordon) Balfour and Kathleen Harkness also grandsons James and David Balfour. Born in Kelowna, Janet grew up in Queen's Bay in the Kootenays. She had a long and successful career as a secretary and met her husband Allan while they were both working at Cominco in Trail, B.C. During her life, Janet lived in Trail, Vancouver, Milwaukee Wisconsin, Millbrook New York and Saudi Arabia. Allan and Janet settled back in Vancouver in 1976 and in recent years lived in West Vancouver, B.C. Janet was a gracious hostess who welcomed many to her home. She was a past member of the Georgian Club and a member of the Vancouver Club. A service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church at 1490 Nanton Ave. Vancouver, B.C. on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place following the service at Capilano View Cemetery at 1490 third street, West Vancouver, B.C. at 11:30a.m. A reception will be held at Amica West Vancouver, 659 Clyde St. at 2:00p.m. For those wishing to share a memory of Janet, please go to www.hollyburnfunerals.com Hollyburn Funeral Home 604-922-1221
