Janet Shetter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2015.
Janet E. Shetter Our beloved mother and grandma, Janet Eldora Shetter, age 84, passed away on October 4, 2015 at the Shook Home in Chambersburg. She was born on January 17, 1931 in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Charles Lehman Wenger and Rhoda (Ebersole) Wenger Etter. She was a former long time member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren where her volunteer activities included being a youth director, nursery school teacher, children's choir director, Sunday School teacher, choir member, bell choir member and Vacation Bible School volunteer. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Brethren Fellowship Church and also served as a prayer warrior for the Upward Basketball program. Janet was a 1949 graduate of Chambersburg High School, where she enjoyed playing the trumpet in the high school band. She attended Juniata College, studying elementary education. Her love of children carried on in her work career as a pre-school teacher at Stanley Company Employee Daycare Center, Chambersburg. Upon the daycare's closing, she joined The Butcher Shoppe team for 24 years until her retirement. Janet was a generous, loving mom and grandma and devoted much time to her family. She enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings and cooking for her children and their extended families. Her homemade iced tea was always a staple at summer picnics and birthdays. In addition to her family, she was blessed with many friends. She always made time to give someone a call or send a card, just to let them know that she was thinking of them. During her later years, she became a resident at The Quarters at the Shook Home, where she made several close friendships. They often lent each other books, visited in each other's rooms and walked together in the halls. Janet's hobbies included reading, cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. She was also an avid plant lover. She was well-loved and will be missed by many. She is survived by three children, Jeffrey Lee Shetter (wife Laura) of Chambersburg, Barry Lynn Shetter (Tracy Wertz) of Carlisle and Kimm Yvonne (Shetter) Ebersole (husband Tom) of Villanova; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Shetter-Ray (husband Justin), Ann (Shetter) Deardorff (husband Brian), Melissa Byers (husband Rob), Cole Ebersole and Ross Ebersole; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew Shetter and Anastasia, Zachary and Juliet Deardorff. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015, at the Brethren Fellowship Church, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at 1 pm. The Rev. Manny Diaz will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens with a fellowship time afterwards at the church. Dear Sweet Jan...I worked with Jan for 10+ years at the Stanley Daycare Center where we had many good times and shared so many laughs! She taught me how to crochet and made sure I did it right! Years later I had the privilege of assisting in her care at the Quarters at the Shook where she made many friends and was just as pleasant and fun as ever. She will be missed by all who knew her. Prayers for you Jan, as you are now with your one true love, and Peace to you Kim, Jeff and Barry and your families.

Many years ago I worked with 'Jan' at the Butcher Shoppe and she was always ready with a smile and such a joy to work with everyday. Blessings and peace to the Shetter family.
