Janet Marie Shimer

Janet Marie Shimer, age 81, of Ludington, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at HealthBridge Post-Acute Rehabilitation in Wyoming, Michigan, after a short illness. She was born on September 25, 1943, in Burnips, Michigan, to Elmer and Irene Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved sister, Diana Zeeff; brother-in-law, Ronald Zeeff; her first husband, Roy McIlvain; her second husband, Ned Shimer; and her great-nephew, Kyle Kelting.

Janet will be deeply missed by her niece and family: Mandy and Larry Hildenbrand; Lindsey and Michael Siegersma and their daughter, August; Kristen Kelting and her children, Kendalyn and Kayson. Her nephew and family also mourn her loss: Scott and Shari Zeeff; Emily and David Geurink and their children, Aubree, Reese, and Jolee.

She will also be remembered by her three stepchildren: Brent Shimer and Tabathe; Jeff and Khrysta Shimer; Scott and Jill Shimer; as well as nine step-grandchildren: Bailey and fiancée Lacey, Emily and fiancee Marcus, Ethan, Owen, Brandon, Layton, Cecilia, Kylan, and Scarlett. Additionally, she leaves behind two step-great-grandchildren, Layla and Giorgio and Janet's sister-in-law Rosanne Putman.

Janet had a kind spirit and an infectious laugh. She was a unique soul who found joy in butterflies, flowers, animals, and garage sales. Her presence brought light to those around her, and she will be dearly missed.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at LifeChange Community Church in Burnips, Michigan. She will be laid to rest in Salem Township Cemetery near the home where she was born.
