Janet Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2025.
It is with heartfelt remembrance that we celebrate the life of Mrs. Janet Marie Smith (née Ragap), who passed away on March 28, 2025, in Macomb Township, Michigan, at the age of 86.

Born on December 20, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, Janet lived a vibrant and hands-on life filled with creativity and determination. She embraced every opportunity to build, restore, and beautify the world around her. Whether she was restoring classic cars or transforming her home through painting, wallpapering, tiling, or upholstering projects, Janet brought passion and precision to everything she did. Her love for craftsmanship was not just a hobby-it was a defining part of who she was.

Janet's energetic spirit extended far beyond her workbench. She found joy in an array of activities that reflected her dynamic personality. She loved golf and bowling, baseball with enthusiasm, and relished time spent boating on the water. A devoted reader as well, she appreciated the quiet escape of a good book.

Her fascination with hotrods and classic cars wasn't limited to admiration-she actively participated in their restoration and proudly cruised in vehicles she helped bring back to life. This passion became a signature part of her identity and connected her with others who shared her appreciation for vintage automotive beauty.

Travel also played an important role in Janet's life. She explored destinations across the United States and abroad, collecting memories that enriched her journey and broadened her perspective.

Janet's legacy lives on through those who knew and loved her. She is remembered by her sons, David Keena and Aloysius Keena; their wives, Joanne Keena and Kathy Baertson; her sisters, Cinthia Grunow and Micheale Best; her brother-in-law, Charlie Grunow; her brother, Robert Ragap; as well as five cherished grandchildren: Jeremy, Heather, Jen, Julie, and Davis.

She now reunites in peace with her beloved husband Eddie J. Smith; brothers Harry Ragap, Donald Ragap, Ricky Ragap, Ike Ragap, Ronald Ragap, and Tim Ragap; and mother Helen Ragap.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Gazebo Banquet Center located at 31104 Mound Road in Warren, Michigan 48092. Lunch will be served at 2:00 PM with an open bar available throughout the afternoon. If you plan on coming for lunch, please respond to Al at 586-662-1200 or Dave at 586-536-9055 by phone or text. Guests are warmly encouraged to bring classic cars or hotrods for special parking in honor of Janet's enduring passion.

May Janet's memory continue to inspire joy and creativity in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
