Janet TOWELL

TOWELL _ Janet Meikle (nee Symons) born May 2, 1917 passed away on June 1, 2003. Janet was born in Edmonton and moved to Vancouver as a child. She met her future husband Hap (Dean Ross) Towell at a house party in 1940 and they were married 6 months later. With a yearning for travel and desire to be with her new husband, Janet joined Hap on the family tug boat business. She worked as cook on the Louise Idaho at a time when there were very few women on tugs. Pregnancy took her off the boat and into Burnaby where she raised four children: David Towell (Wendy), Ron Towell (Moe), Louise Towell (Gilles) and Barbara Towell. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Justin, Trevor, Michelle and Chanel. We have lost our sweet gentle mother and our window to the past. No services by request. A celebration of Janet's life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003. In lieu of flowers please give to SPCA or the charity of your choice.
