Weakley, Janet McAfee passed away on June 16, 2007 at home after a long illness with cancer. Survived by her three children: the Rev. Irene Jones, Wesley McAfee Jones (Nancy) and Janet J. Horlacher (Tom);her sister and best friend, Barbara McAfee Wohltman; four grandchildren: Murphy, James, Casey and Nick; many nieces and nephews and lifelong family friend, Nellie Harris. Preceded in death by her son A. Clifford Jones, Jr. (d. 1988), her husband Edward D. Weakley (d. 1990), sister Alice McAfee Scott (d. 1985) and first husband, Sen. A. Clifford Jones (d.1996). Born August 24, 1929 to Alice Buzard and James Wesley McAfee, Janet attended Mary Institute and Smith College. In 1975, she founded the real estate company, Janet McAfee Inc., grew it to the sixth largest real estate brokerage in St. Louis and continued to serve as Chairman until her death. A pioneer in business, Janet devoted countless hours to St. Louis organizations and charitable causes including her church, Episcopal Church of St. Michael and St. George, Saint Louis Opera Theater, the Saint Louis Art Museum, BarnesJewish hospital, the Missouri Women's Forum, the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) and Mary Institute. She was a former director of the Federal Reserve Board of St. Louis, Ameren U.E. and Boatman's Trust. In 1997, Janet was named Variety Club Woman of the Year; she has also been honored as a Woman of Achievement, 1994 recipient of the St. Louis Forum's Trailblazer Award and MI Laurel Award.Services: A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of St. Michael and St. George, Wydown Blvd. at Ellenwood Ave., Clayton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center or a St. Louis charity of your choice. A service of THE LUPTON CHAPEL.

Dear Rev. Irene Jones,
Life is eternal and love is immortal and death is a gateway, an entrance and portal into a life that no man can envision, for God has a greater perspective and vision.

Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. We all send our LOVE! From all of us at St. Paul's Community Church.

Janet, Irene & Family: I'm just now hearing about your Mom's death as I've been out of town on vacation. I am so sorry.
