Janet Wilder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 11 to Jan. 14, 2024.
Dunedin - Janet Wilder, a beloved wife, mother and cherished grandmother, peacefully passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving husband and lifelong partner, family and caretakers on January 9, 2024 at the age of 79. A funeral service will be held at noon on January 18 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin, FL. The service will be livestreamed.

Janet Wilder was born in Cook, MN to George and Alice Skur. She attended Bethel College and the University of Minnesota and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Janet taught elementary school for 20 years at Marquette Elementary in Rockford, IL and 22 years in Florida with 20 of them at Cracker Trail Elementary in Sebring, FL. She received her master's degree from Nova Southeastern while living in Florida.

Janet loved her husband, children, grandchildren, friends and especially loved her many trips to Minnesota to visit her family. She enjoyed being outside in the warm sunshine and stayed extremely fit by walking, running, and mostly by playing tennis and golf with her lifelong partner Harvey. She also got her exercise by shopping, which explains why she was always put together and stylish. Janet's other passion was music, and Janet was known for directing her grade level's holiday programs while singing and playing the piano.

Janet will be greatly missed by her husband, Harvey (Dunedin, FL) and their two children: Christina Rock (husband Ken) and Matthew Wilder (wife Darbie); her four grandchildren Lily Rock (16), Bryce Wilder (11), Chelsea Rock (10), and Beckham Wilder (9). Janet is also survived by her brother Norman Skur (wife Faith). Janet is preceded in death by her parents George and Alice Skur; brother Allen Skur and sister-in-law Ardell Skur.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in support of Alzheimer's research and Hospice care.

Dear Harvey, Christie, and Matt, I taught with your wife (mom) at Cracker Trail. She was a mentor, team leader, and good friend. We both had kids in high school/ college and shared stories and experiences so I got to know you through her. She had a strong moral compass and guided all those around her as such. I can still picture her sweet smile and yes affirmation. I feel the last years have been a difficult journey for all of you. I hope that it will be a comfort that when you think of her that you remember the happier years. God bless you.

Harvey, Christina & Family, Matt & Family:

It is so hard to lose our loved ones but our special memories will help us cope.

Aunt Janet was the most wonderful, kind, beautiful, caring and loving person. She will be truly missed more than I have already. Such great memories of her bringing me to the beach in her convertible and such great memories at the Cabin in MN as well as all the Christmases we spent together.

It brings me comfort that she is in Heaven with all her family and friends.

May GOD comfort you during this very difficult season. Prayers Hugs and Love to you all.

Carrie

Jan and Harvey - the "Wilders" - such wonderful, caring, fun neighbors MANY years ago! I babysat for both Christie and Matt before the big move to Florida. Many wonderful memories! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

What a beautiful gentle soul Jan was. It was a privilege to teach with Jan and Harv during their years in the Loves Park, IL Harlem School District.....and to call them my friends. Jim and I send our love to the entire family! We know Jan is "whole" again and one of God´s beautiful angels. Our love to all!

I met Janet for the first time at Cracker Trail Elementary when the school was first opened. We taught together for many years. Janet was a wonderful teacher and inspired many children to reach their potential. You will be greatly missed Janet.
