Janet Wise Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2024.
Janet Evelyn Wise, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by her family on October 3, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on July 14, 1936, in Eau Claire, Michigan, to the late Evelyn and Richard Winney, Janet spent her early years working on her family farm, where her strong work ethic and nurturing spirit first took root.

While pursuing her passion for nursing studying in Chicago, IL at Michael Reese Hospital, she met the love of her life, Duane Charles Wise. They were married for an incredible 66 years, where she filled their home with love and laughter while raising their family in Illinois and Oklahoma.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Duane; her cherished sister, Mary Ann Dolan; and her three children, Michael Wise (Cindy), Denise Schwab (John), and Patricia Ambrose (Robert). She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Tabitha Steiner (Evan), Tiffany Demas, Harrison Demas (Charlotte), Ryan Wise (Ruth), Nathan Sievers, Charlton Demas, Connor Wise (Camille), Matthew Sievers, Nicholas Sievers, and Krista Wise, as well as four great-grandchildren: Theodore, Esme, Toula, and Ellis Steiner.

Known for her compassion, green thumb, and sharp wit, Janet dedicated herself to her nursing career until the age of 86, touching countless lives with her kindness and skill. She was a steadfast member of her church community, actively participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and serving as a Stephen Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest, Illinois. Her unwavering faith guided her through life, and her family remains inspired by the example she set of kindness, strength, and love.

Janet was truly an Angel on Earth, loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, who aspire to honor her memory by following her remarkable example.

A private service will be held by her family at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in St. George, UT on Saturday, October 12th, to be followed by a memorial celebration of life in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet's memory to Bible Study Fellowship International.

Janet was an inspiration to me every time I ran into her at First Presbyterian Church, Lake Forest. A kinder woman than almost anyone I have ever known, she embodied her natural grace in her kind words, her generous spirit, and her helping hands in her role as a Stephen Minister. She will always be Loved and Missed by those of us who counted her as a dear friend. Maureen Olsen
