Janice Culver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 16, 2024.
Janice passed away on December 5, 2024, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Born in Bardstown, Kentucky, Janice later moved with her mother and seven siblings to Daytona Beach, Florida. She attended St. Paul's School, graduating in 1959 as part of the final class before the school transitioned to an elementary school.

Janice had a lifelong love for Elvis Presley, which began on August 9, 1956, when she attended his performance at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach and received a kiss on the cheek from the "King" himself. Over the years, she attended five of his live performances and filled her home with Elvis memorabilia, including an Elvis-themed Christmas tree every holiday season.

While Elvis captured her admiration, the love of her life was her husband, Dennis Culver. They met on New Year's Eve at Mac's Bar, where Janice sought him out at midnight to get "the" celebratory kiss. From that moment on, she knew he was the man she would marry. The couple shared 64 years of marriage and raised four sons together.

As a devoted mother, Janice was actively involved in her children's lives. She served on the PTA at St. Paul's School, led a cheer squad, and co-founded a Girl Scout troop that became the largest in the area. She organized special outings for the troop and created cherished memories with other families through activities like water skiing at Wildcat Lake and trips to Six-Gun Territory.

Janice brought joy to those around her with her humor, energy, and love of life. She enjoyed traveling, playing games of chance, and making friends wherever she went. Her southern charm and authenticity left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Janice is predeceased by her son Douglas, two brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her husband Dennis Sr., three sons, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four sisters, and numerous extended family members and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at The Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church in Daytona Beach on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., immediately following she will be interred at Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach, Florida, near her son Douglas.

Her final words were "I love you," a testament to the deep love she held for all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and joy to her family and friends.

I was a classmate of Janice at St. Paul's in our freshman and sophomore years. Although I left (or was kicked out of) St. Paul's to go to Mainland HS, I was always included in later reunions thanks to Janice. She hosted a memorable 40th (?) class reunion at her home in 1999. I gave her an Elvis oil painting for her collection. She came to my sister's (Sharon Haug Tramont) funeral in February this year and looked fabulous despite the fact she was undergoing treatments for cancer. I last saw her in March on a return visit to DB. She was the heart of the Class of 1959 and kept in contact with all of us. She will be missed so much. RIP Janice. You made a huge contribution to all who knew you in your life.
