Janice Mitchell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2024.
Janice Dolores Mitchell, nee Singelman, known affectionately as Jan, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, in Brookfield, Wisconsin, at the age of 88. Born on January 28, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, Jan lived a vibrant and fulfilling life marked by her love for family, her passion for the arts, and her unwavering spirit of community involvement.

Jan graduated from Monmouth College, which laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to learning and culture. An avid golfer, bowler, and bridge player, Jan thrived in the camaraderie of her fellow enthusiasts and was a fixture in many local leagues. Her love for the performing arts was profound; she was a dedicated member of the Palos Village Players Community Theatre Group, where she immersed herself in every aspect of production, from costume design and scene crafting to acting, directing, and producing. Her theatrical work brought her immense joy and a lot of fun.

Jan's musical talents were equally notable; she loved to sing in the church choir, even as a child from the age of nine and cherished the opportunity to share her voice throughout her life.

Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Randall, after 58 years of marriage, and her cherished son, Scott (Kelli nee Kraai). She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply: sons Clayton Mitchell and Jeffrey Mitchell (William Schmitt); daughter Christine Keim (Matthew); grandchildren Mitchell Keim (Monicka nee Montijo), Derek Mitchell (Tim Teunissen), Jennifer Ohlson (Matthew), and Kevin Mitchell (Jenna Norosky); and great-grandchildren Aurelia Keim and Jack Ohlson.

A memorial service to celebrate Jan's life will be held on September 8, at 9 am, during the Sunday Worship Service at Hephatha Lutheran Church, 1720 W Locust, Milwaukee, WI, with a meal to follow. A second memorial service and the burial of her ashes will take place at her home congregation, All Saints Lutheran Church in Orland Park, Illinois, on September 22, 2024, at 3 pm, where her life and legacy will be honored in their memorial garden, followed by a communal meal.

In honor of Jan's journey with Alzheimers and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
