Robert Dickson II

DICKSON, Robert McCall (Bob) Robert McCall (Bob) Dickson II was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 21, 1935 to Robert McCall Dickson and Olive June Lacey Dickson. He and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio when Bob was a teenager. He later graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957 with a bachelor of arts degree in Radio/TV/ Communications. Upon graduation, he was commis-sioned as a Second Lieutenant and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, training as an Aircraft Control and Warning Officer. Bob was initially assigned to Guam and then transferred to a Chinese radar site north of Taipei, Taiwan during his active duty, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain. Bob married his loving wife of 59 years, Lourene Oehlschlaeger of Fort Worth, on November 8, 1958. His commitment to principle and integrity resulted in a very accomplished and successful 41-year career with Washington National Insurance Company in the education field working on behalf of Texas teachers, holding several management positions and leading the company in sales production for the five consecutive years before he retired as a Group Manager in 1998. Bob was a devoted husband and father, dedicated to family, community and Fifth Church of Christ Scientist in Dallas, where he served faithfully for over 50 years in multiple capacities. Bob gave tirelessly of his time and leadership to several organizations, including the Dallas Council of the Navy League (serving as president, board chairman and, most recently, director emeritus), the Military Order of the World Wars, the Greater Dallas Veterans Foundation (as board member), the Dallas Veterans Day Parade Group (as 2006 parade committee chairman, board member and parade announcer), as well as being a DFW Airport Ambassador for close to 15 years. He and Lourene shared a love of travel and together visited many beautiful places around the world throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, the Middle East and Asia, while also making time to see much of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Bob was preceded in passing by his parents and is survived by his wife, Lourene; daughter, Debra Dickson of Plano; and son, Robert Dickson III, and three grandchildren, Aardon, Morgen and Angelina, of Bedford.
