Jason Garrett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2004.
Jason Garrett, 24, of Bettendorf, died early on July 5, 2004, from head injuries suffered in a fall that occurred at a July 4th celebration. Memorial services to celebrate Jason's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport. Visitation will also be held at the church Thursday evening, July 8, from 4-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Augustana College Scolarship Fund, R.E.: Jason Garrett. Weerts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jason Scott Garrett was born Nov. 6, 1979 in Presque Isle, Maine to Jack and Terry (Meade) Garrett. He received his education in the Bettendorf school system and was a 2002 graduate of Augustana College, where he was also a member of the OZO fraternity.
He was employed for over a year with the Q.C. Blind Company and recently began working in the insurance industry. He had a passion for life and was particularly avid in his support of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He was an excellent frisbee golfer who spent hours on the local courses with his canine companion Ragus. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a loyal friend to many.
Survivors include his parents; his sisters, Ali (22) and Katlin (17), both at home; his maternal grandparents, Don and Ruth Meade, of Waterloo, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding Jason in death were his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Marjorie Garrett and two uncles, Stephen Garrett and James Garrett. He will be missed by many and will live forever in the hearts of loved ones.

Dear Jack, Terry, Ali, Kati~

I love you all so much. You all have this sparkle in your eyes that can light up any room. The same goes for Jason. I am glad I got the chance to get to know Jason a little more this year he was my cousin and I feel like I should have known him better than I did. He and Brian became pretty close buddies and I am thankful for that as well. This is the second tragedy to hit our family this year and I prey and hope that we all get through this positively (especially you guys). Brian said something that made me smile the other day, he said, "Maybe that is why dad died; so that Jason had someone to meet him when he got there." Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. Either way they are together again and they will always be here with us as well.

Love always and forever~

The Garrett Family,

What a great, loving, happy family! I am so so sorry this tragedy had to happen to our family, especially to your family. Jason will be missed terribly! You know dad(Jim) took him by the hand the second they met in heaven, like everyone says they were so much alike! Dad will take care of Jason, as well, Jason will take care of dad! You know they're probably still the same little dare devils we knew, now they're together having as much fun as they possibly can & we all know they both received a blue ribbon in that category! I'll be seeing and talking to you all soon! I love you all so so much! XOXO

Love Always,

Andi(niece, cousin)

I've tried to write this entry a thousand times, and I'm still at a loss. There just aren't words for the emptiness we must all feel. Jason and I were friends and pledgebrothers at Augustana, and I can't imagine a moment I spent there that would have been the same without him. He was a remarkable young man, one who seemed to touch the life of every Augie student I knew. My deepest sympathies to his family, his countless friends, and everyone else who grieves this tragic loss.

As you know, I worked with Jason for a short time some years ago. I looked forward to seeing him, as he always made me laugh and smile- he made work enjoyable. We instantly became friends because we shared the same sense of humor and he was such a great person. He really did have a fun, carefree way about him... that definately made everyone gravitate towards him.Time passes and lives go on, but I remember those times like it was yesterday and I will never forget the special realtionship that we shared and how highly I thought of him. For now he will live on in our memories and hearts until we meet again.

I can't find the words to express my sympathy. Jason was a close friend of mine at Augie and was my little brother in the fraternity. He was a great kid and was surely the light of every room. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and all who cared so much for Jason.

Jason was one of my great friends at Augustana. I was one year ahead of him in school, and also in the OZO fraternity. Jason and I watched many Illinois vs Iowa games together and shared many great times together throughout my time at Augie.

He truly was the life of any room and very great person.

My sympathies go out to his family.

Saying that you are sorry for your loss seems so little, but know that you and your family are in our family's prayers.

I am sorry I didn't meant your son, but knowing you Terri think he must have been a great young man.

God bless and give you strength during this time of sadness.

Take care!

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I was a couple years ahead of Jason at Augustana and was a member of his fraternity. He was one of the funniest young men I've ever had the good fortune to know, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. Jason will be missed dearly.
