Jason Silvia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 8 to May 9, 2023.
Jason Peter Silvia, 51, of Chicago, IL passed away on April 26, 2023 after suffering a devastating cardiac event several days prior. Jason was born on October 28, 1971 in Providence, Rhode Island to Peter Silvia and Jane Combellack. He was a graduate of the North Kingstown High School class of 1989 and spent a short time in the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Naval ROTC Program. After exploring the country and spending time living in Amherst, MA and Fort Collins, CO, he called Chicago home for the last 20 years.

Jason was called many things by many people - son, brother, husband, father, Jay, and Skip - but the one that resonated with all who knew him was "friend." He was kind-hearted and soft-spoken, always looking out for those in his circle.

He loved the snow (a requirement when you're from the East Coast, right?) and was an avid skier and snowboarder, and a fan of the New England Patriots. He was a connoisseur of many types of music and loved live concerts; those who knew him best know that his favorite band was Guster. Jason also frequently listened to podcasts and often made recommendations to his friends and family. He was employed by Frito-Lay, where his coworkers referred to him as an easy-going, all-around good guy.

On June 4, 2000, Jason married the love of his life, Angela "Cookie" Ulm in Wickford, Rhode Island, and in the years that followed, they were blessed with two daughters, Penelope "Penny" and Caroline. He was very proud of his girls, always sharing their dance recitals on Facebook so friends and family could stay involved from afar. Jason and Angela loved and were loved by those in their close-knit neighborhood and their MANY friends.

Jason was preceded in death by his dear "Cookie," who passed away on February 25th of this year, his father, Peter Silvia, his stepfather, Bill Sullivan, and his grandparents. He is survived by his daughters Penelope and Caroline, mother Jane, brother Andrew (Erica) and nephew Caleb, stepmother Sam Silvia, his mother-in-law, Bonnie Ulm, brother-in-law, Rich (Jackie) Ulm, and sister-in-law Sally Ann Prier & nephews (Liam & Kiernan). Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and stepfamily members.

Jason gave the gift of life as an organ donor. A dignified cremation has taken place and no services will be observed at this time.

Jay was our beloved nephew-in-law, husband to our dear niece, Angela. They both are sorely missed.
