I´m a little late, but please accept my condolences on Jay´s passing. If this Jay Decker was a Jay, Jr. with a grandfather nicknamed Dud who owned a sporting goods store in Mason City, he was also a pretty good DN iceboat sailor on Clear Lake. We broke several booms and a couple of masts from having them a little tighter than our dad´s would have allowed. But we were fast!!! I´m Bill Oertel and I remember building our DN´s in the basement of Decker´s Sports then trying to figure out how we could get them up the steep steps and out of the store. Anyway, another story from the past. Again, sorry to hear and reply so late, but kind of lost track of Jay after Mason City. Hope this story brings you all a smile. Later, Bill

Jay, always Topper to me, & I were roommates 59 years ago. The smile I see in the picture of the two of you takes me back to that era & the same smile, especially when mischievous activities may have been on the horizon. RIP Jay

Topper was one of the all-time great, fun loving guys I knew at Iowa. Many memories at the PSI lodge. Best to his family . DB

I have the distinct pleasure to be able to call Topper my friend. I attended the University of Iowa with Jay and spent many hours, skiing, hanging together and taking adventurous trips. Jay will always have a special spot in my heart. With his good humor fellowship he will always my very dear friend.

I loved this man, father of my best childhood friend Britton & her beautiful older sister Kim. Such happy memories I have because of your welcoming heart, fun loving spirit, & being a fabulous father who made our summer visits from CA to OR dreamy. 50 years later I can still dive backwards & love to play outdoors thanks to your influence. I still cherish the family you created. These summer break memories will always remind me of you Jay and warm my heart
May God Bless your family & feel your presence watching over them.
Very Respectfully, Kary

I just discovered this terrible News. Jay was my partner on Police Dept for awhile as Community Relation Officers, a personal friend and godfather to my day, Shalon. I friendship is everlasting and I loved this fun loving, funny guy. I am broken over this.

So very sorry Sue, I can't imagine the sadness and loss you are feeling. My heart breaks for you, Jay was bigger than life, loved by many. Britton and Kim are in my thoughts too, they loved their dad so much. Our Christmas Even open house would not have been the same without you all. Laughing at the grandkids and sharing those special moments were the best. Memories are all we can leave and Jay left many.
