Jay Fessler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2025.
Jay Robert Fessler, age 73, of Two Rivers, passed away on August 31, 2025.

He is reunited with Tina Fessler, his beloved wife of 44 years, who he cared for while she courageously battled ALS before her passing in 2020.

Born on April 24, 1952, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Jay was a 1970 graduate of Lincoln High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army for 20 years. During his distinguished military career, Jay was assigned as a Military Police officer and served in several specialized roles, including Kennel Master, Patrol Dog Handler, Narcotic Detector Dog Handler, Explosive Detector Dog Handler, and Working Dog Master. Among his favorite assignments were his time at the Panama Canal, in Washington, D.C., and supporting security efforts at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. His dedication, leadership, and deep love of working with dogs earned him the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him.

Following his military service, Jay continued to pursue education and personal growth, graduating from Wayland Baptist University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education and an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Jay will be remembered for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He built wonderful relationships with his neighbors and never met a stranger-he loved talking to everyone he met. His lifelong love for dogs was unmatched, and his loyal companion, Sam, was truly his "best girl" and constant sidekick.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine "Tina" Denolf Fessler (2020); his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Fessler (2011); and his father, Roy Fessler (1985).

Jay is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Justin) Beard; his grandchildren, Tatum (Austin) Smith, Eli (Addyson) Beard, Max Beard, Nicholas Beard, and Cooper Beard; and his great-grandchildren, Sloane and Mack Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Jon (Theresa) Fessler; his sisters, Ann (Tom) Kenevan and Joy (Ann) Fessler; his many in-laws who have loved him dearly for the 50 years he was part of the Denolf family; his faithful dog, Sam; and several godchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Lincoln Park, Cabin 2, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jay's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, organizations that support the heroes Jay deeply respected. Donations may also be made to the ALS Association in honor of his beloved wife and best friend, Tina.

Jay and I met at USAMPS, LAFB in '75. He was a bull, and worked hard at his craft. Later, he stayed in the MWD program, and was widely known for his knowledge and friendship. We spoke often since Tina's passing, and I know, JAY was ready to see her again. His health kept him home lately, but we spoke of seeing each other soon...

Jay was a wonderful Detector Dog Handler Course Chief at Lackland AFB, Texas and remained a dear friend thereafter. I miss him already but feel he is at peace with Tina now. I treasure the memories of times I was able to enjoy his company and spirit. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
