Funeral service for Jay Bruce Hess, Sr., 79, of Huntington was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 in the Highway Baptist Church with Brother Lamar Denby and Jay Bruce Hess, Jr. officiating. Masonic graveside service followed in the Huntington Cemetery under the auspices of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Hess was born February 19, 1934 in Berwick, PA to the late Ida (Brink) and Webman Hess and died September 26, 2013 in Huntington after attaining the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 7 days. He was retired as a pattern maker with Lufkin Industries, proudly served his country in the US Army, and was a member of Highway Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and also loved camping and flea markets. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Velva Sue (Sheffield) Hess; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Billy Jack Durham and Lesa and Greg Burch; son and daughter-in-law, Jay B. Jr. and Robyn Hess; son, David Craven; daughter, Sherri Hess; grandchildren, Nicole Sifford, Angie Williams, Mandy Jones, Don Harris, Ryan Durham, Adam Hess, Rodney Durham, Kara Sharp, Grant Harris, Jason Burch, Cullen Brock, Dalton Brock, and Remington Brock; twenty-six great-grandchildren; brother, Dayton Hess; sister, Marian Halderman; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Millie Karchner, brother, Clayton Hess, and grandson, Jay Bruce Hess, III. Casketbearers were his grandsons; Don Harris, Ryan Durham, Adam Hess, Rodney Durham, Grant Harris, Cullen Brock, Dalton Brock, and Remington Brock. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the church. Snead Linton Funeral Home; directors.
