Jay Kennedy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2024.
Jay Kennedy, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away peacefully after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.

Born on December 14, 1954 in Indianapolis, Jay grew up in a city that mirrored his own love for adventure and excitement. From a young age, he developed a passion for both cars and sports - interests that remained central throughout his life. Whether it was attending the Indy 500 every year with his family, or avidly cheering on Purdue athletics, Jay's enthusiasm was infectious, drawing hisentire family into the activities he loved most.

Jay was supremely dedicated to his family, and he filled their lives with joy, laughter, and spontaneity. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 26 years, Lynne, and his four children Erin, Scott (Natasha), Kiley, and Austin, as well as his brother Matthew (Cathleen).

His children were his pride and joy-not just for their accomplishments, but for the values they hold and the people they have become. Jay's love for his family was unwavering and he was always there for them, offering support, encouragement, and a light-hearted spirit that oftenlifted their day.

In his professional life, Jay was known for his commitment and integrity. After earning his Doctor of Pharmacy from Purdue University, he enjoyed a successful career that spanned roles at Eli Lilly, Baxter, and Pechiney (American National Can). He served on the City of Lake Forest Zoning Board and the board of Everett Farm Homeowners Association. In 2003, Jay left the corporate world to follow his passion for building, founding a custom home-building company on the Northshore of Chicago. His clients appreciated his expertise, but most of all they appreciated the way he treated them - with fairness, understanding, and a genuine interest in their needs. The cover of Luxe Interiors + Design Magazine featured his very last project, highlighting his unique ability to bring an idea to life.

Jay was also known for his playful demeanor. Even when faced with challenges, he found ways to keep things in perspective, often using humor to ease the tension. He knew how to laugh at himself and made sure those around him did too.

Jay is survived by his wife, Lynne, his children Erin, Scott (Natasha), Kiley, and Austin, his brother Matthew (Cathleen), his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Brenda and Dominic Randazzo, and brothers-in-law, Michael (Lynn) Randazzo and Douglas (Mindy) Randazzo, as well as 6 nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward and Julia Kennedy.

A celebration of Jay's life will be held on Monday, September 2nd at 2:00pm at the Deer Path Inn at 255 E Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL, 60045. In lieu of flower, donations in his memory may be made to Heart to HeartHospice Foundation: www.htohhfoundation.org/donation/

I met Jay at a home he was building in Deerfield over 20 years ago.
Jay helped me design and then build the home I have lived in for the past 15 years
I was saddened to hear of Jays passing.
~A beautifully written remembrance that truly touched on so many of the qualities that were so evident to all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

My deepest condolences to his family.
