Jay Palmer Obituary

Published by & from Apr. 22 to Apr. 24, 2021.
Jay Mark Palmer, M.D.
October 9, 1956 - April 17, 2021
Fort Worth, Texas - Dr. Jay Mark Palmer, 64, died at his home in Fort Worth on April 17. Beloved by family, friends, and the thousands of patients he treated during his long career as an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, his passing marks the loss of a leading member of the Fort Worth medical community.
Mark was born to Don and Betty Palmer. Growing up in Ft. Worth, he was a proud graduate of R.L. Paschal High School, class of 1975. He attended Rice University in Houston, where he was the James M. and Sarah Wade Rockwall Scholar. He went on to receive his M.D. at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and completed his residency and fellowships at affiliated hospitals, including Texas Children's Hospital. Mark returned home to Ft. Worth in 1988 to begin his private practice as an otolaryngologist specializing in pediatric diseases. Over the course of his 32-year career, which was unfortunately cut short by illness, Mark treated thousands of adults and children and, later, their children in turn. Medicine was Mark's calling from an early age, and he considered alleviating the ailments of so many patients one of his life's greatest accomplishments. He also took great pride in the success of his children, now adults forging their own educational paths, careers, and families.
Mark was known for his brilliance, skill, creativity, love of music, dedication to serving the Fort Worth community, and sense of humor, which was quick and often used, if at times to the embarrassment of his children. He was a passionate home chef, always perfecting his recipes and sharing his delight in cooking with his loved ones. Mark supported several local charities and organizations aimed at advancing the Fort Worth community, including the Van Cliburn Foundation, Fort Worth Zoo, Jewel Charity, Fort Worth Opera, University Christian Church, R.L. Paschal High School, Fort Worth Country Day School, and Trinity Valley School, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He also regularly provided free medical care to those without means to otherwise afford care, without fanfare or recognition.
Mark is survived by his father, Don Palmer; his sister, Lauren Johndro and her husband, Adriel Johndro; his six children, Elizabeth Peterson, Andrew Palmer, Philip Palmer, Ashley Pope, Lauren Pope, and Grace Palmer; his five grandchildren, Cedar, Emerson, Meadow, and Felix Palmer, and Arthur Peterson; and many loved ones.
Services in honor of Mark will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, April 30, 2021 at University Christian Church in Ft. Worth. A streaming option will be available due to COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, so that critically ill children can visit one of Mark's happiest places on Earth, Walt Disney World, a destination he wished he could visit when he was critically ill, or to the Fort Worth charity of your choice.

I just found about the loss of Dr. Palmer, I'm so sorry for the loss of a wonderful, caring man. He has treated all my children for the last 21 years. He will be greatly missed as my daughter was just trying to get an appointment scheduled with him. I'm at a loss as to who will see her now. She wouldn't let ANYONE touch her, not even Dr. Palmer. But after her first encounter with him as a fiesty 2 yr old, he was her best friend so to speak! The last time she saw him she was sharing "funny pick up lines" with him asking what he thought about them------and they just laughed & laughed, that's the kind of Dr he was. Someone will have to fill some BIG SHOES, you just don't find those kind anymore!!(she's now 15) Rest in Peace Dr. Palmer You will be Greatly missed by many!

My son was a patient for 6 years. He was the only doctor who could touch Ethan's ears. When my daughter was having issue Dr. Palmer figured out what was wrong and took care of her as well. He was my kids favorite doctor and he took better care of them than their pediatrician. My family will miss Dr. Palmer

I just heard about Dr. Palmer's passing, today, when my daughter called to make an appointment for her son. I am so sorry for your loss and the loss in the community. He was so incredible with my grandson, only 9 months to 3 years old when he was a patient. Dr. Palmer will be missed by all.

I worked with Dr. Palmer for many years and was always impressed with his ability to combine surgical skill with quick wit and speed! Also - So grateful he fixed my husband's nose- and we sleep much better because of your son's precision and skill! God Bless you all and God bless Mark!!! ❤

I am sorry for your family's loss. Mark was my roommate for three years at Rice. I am listening to Bohemian Rhapsody on Pandora in my office right now, and I recall that we and our friends used to rock out to that song in the car long before Wayne and Garth copied us in their movie. I am glad he touched so many lives so positively.

My heart is broken as one of his long time patients parents. Dr Palmer has taken care of my husband and four children for 18 years! We are truly going to miss him and the love he always gave to my family! My son had some ear trouble and was having surgery and was a little nervous. Dr Palmer brought him some stickers to help cheer him up. When my son looked at the sticker it was Princess stickers. We both laughed so hard. When I shared the news of his passing with my children tonight the first thing my son said was “ you mean i will never get anymore princess stickers” . When I tell you we loved this man whole heartedly this is an understatement! Our thoughts, love, and prayers go out to his entire family and friends!
