SHELBY - Mrs. Jean Ayers, 89, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at home.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Carol Cox and Minnie Bagwell Cox. She retired from St. Frances Hospital in Greenville, S.C., where she was a medical secretary. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Shelby and a former member of Lee Road Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Ed" Hoyle Ayers; son-in-law, Ronald Wesley Ward; five brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her son, Roger Edward Ayers and wife, Paula, of Fort Smith, Ark.; daughter, Wanda Ayers Ward; grand-children, Lisa Ward Hill and husband, Aundre, William Wesley Ward and wife, Julie, Rebecca Ward Bostic and husband, Ja-mie, Matthew Ayers and Timothy Ayers; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Wesley Hill, Dottie Bostic, Owen Ward, Abbey Garrell and Cadien Dixon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Cleveland County and her caregivers, Lisa Hill, Margie Camp-bell, Michelle Orders, Brittany Hill, Wanda Cooper and Becky Bostic.
Funeral: Saturday, July 3, 11 a.m., Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church
Officiated by: Dr. Eric Davis and Dr. Ervin Price
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at the church.
Burial: Saturday, 2 p.m., Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, S.C.
Memorials: Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150; or Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152
