Jean Camacho Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2021.
With great sadness her family announces that Jean Camacho died at home on April 14, 2021 in Davis, CA, surrounded by her children and her sister, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jean was born and raised in Westwood, Lassen County CA on April 21, 1937 to Roy and Ruth Muntz.Jean married Jesse Camacho and moved to Chico, Yolo, and then to Woodland where she raised her family. Jean loved being a mother and homemaker. Jean was divorced and seeking a career when she was accepted into the LVN program at Sacramento City College in 1974. Jean excelled in her studies, making the honor roll every semester, and where due to her academic standing was asked to tutor other student nurses in the program. Jean began her nursing career at the Woodland Clinic. She was an organizer at the clinic, gaining union representation following an election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board. As a well-respected LVN she was selected by her co-workers to serve on the negotiating committee which eventually led to Woodland Clinic employees securing their first union contract for better pay and benefits. Jean played a key role in the organization of workers and was highly regarded by the other union negotiators. She continued to serve as a union steward for many years. In addition to the Woodland Clinic, Jean worked at several private practices during her career. Jean moved to Davis in 1987 and was employed by Kaiser Permanente Davis when she retired. Jean was an excellent nurse. She was knowledgeable, compassionate, professional, friendly, and meticulous in her work habits, always striving to exceed her own high standards to be the best nurse she could be.After her retirement Jean fulfilled her dream of someday returning to the beautiful mountain and lake area where she grew up when she moved to Lake Almanor. She loved nature and flowers and trees and birds and all creatures great and small. She enjoyed having her family visit as often as possible to share the beauty of the lake and Mt Lassen with them. During her time in Lake Almanor Jean made many friends. She was a member of the Lake Almanor Fire Sirens, a volunteer group who supported the Lake Almanor Fire Fighters. Jean was also a member of the Lake Almanor bowling league. Jean eventually returned to Davis, but always treasured her time at Lake Almanor.Jean lived a full life and was young at heart, always ready for an adventure. She enjoyed many trips to Europe, Mexico, and throughout the US. Her most recent travels were to England and Scotland in 2019. Jean loved wine and good food, live theater, especially on Broadway, music and going to the movies. Jean found joy in the simple things in life - hummingbirds, twinkling lights on her patio, roses. Most of all she found joy in her family and family events, which were often and numerous. Jean had five children, Kimberley (Bob), Cathy, Chris (deceased), Kurt, Carrie; five grandchildren, Ashley (Thomas), Sydney (Randall), Devin (Mara), Kalin, Tanner; and six great-grandchildren, Harvey, Conrad, Ellie, Cecily, Bennett, Cora. She was adored by them all and will be missed forever. Jean is also survived by her sister, Karen; other family members, and life-long friends.Jean remained a small town girl at heart and was gracious, kind, humble, and honest. She exemplified dignity, strength, and bravery in her year-long fight against cancer. Her children admired her sense of wonder that inspired a girl from the little town of Westwood to spread her wings and to see the world. Jean's final trip was to the mountain and lake area she loved, where she was laid to rest in a private service near her beloved son Chris at the Chester Cemetery.A Celebration of Life will be held for Jean at a later date. Jean and I have been close friends for over fifty years. She was
instrumental in my going to nurses training with her. Throughout
our friendship she has been a smart, brave and loyal person, both to her
family and friends. I will miss her a great deal.
