Jean "Jeanie" Folkers

Jean "Jeanie" Folkers, 35, of Sloan, Iowa, joined her heavenly family on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, due to a pulmonary embolism. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 15, 2017, at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 14, 2017, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Jean Frances "Jeanie" Folkers was born on April 19, 1982, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Jerrie (Rittscher) Folkers. She attended school in Storm Lake until the family moved to Sloan in 1991. She then attended school at West Monona in Onawa for one year, and completed the rest of her education at Westwood Community Schools in Sloan. Jeanie worked at the Crossroads of Western Iowa workshop from 2001 – 2013. She loved dancing and singing, watching the Disney channel, and celebrating her favorite holiday, Halloween. Jeanie had a great love for her family, and especially for her three nephews. Her oldest nephew, Owen, took her spot as the baby of the family, and she lovingly teased him for that by saying, "Thanks a lot Owen!" She lovingly referred to her other nephews as "Cory Boy" and "William Kid." She was a member of the Community Church of Christ in Sloan. Jeanie lives on through her gift of life to others through the Iowa Donor Network. Survivors include her mother, Jerrie Folkers of Sloan, IA; her father and stepmother, Ralph and Jean Folkers of State College, PA; two sisters and their husbands, Ellen and Brian Jenkins of Des Moines, IA and Katie and Eric Lockridge of Sloan, IA; her beloved nephews, Owen Lockridge, Cory Lockridge, and William Jenkins; her step-grandmother, Munira Rupert of State College, PA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Martin and Elsie Rittscher; paternal grandparents, William and Ellna Folkers; paternal step-grandmother, June Folkers; step-grandfather, Norman Rupert; and two aunts, Jeanette Lynch and Diane Rittscher.
