Jean Marie Gahan

Jean Marie Gahan (Berg), 86, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Sacramento, California.

Born on October 20, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jean's life was defined by her unwavering dedication to others-through her faith, her family, and especially through her lifelong vocation as a teacher. For more than five decades, Jean poured her heart into the classroom. Teaching was never just a job to her-it was a calling. She believed deeply in nurturing young minds and hearts, and treated every student as one of her own. Her classroom was a place of warmth, encouragement, and boundless compassion.

Jean's love for education extended far beyond the school walls. She spent countless hours tutoring neighborhood children, always eager to help them succeed and feel supported. Her generosity of spirit also found expression in her volunteer work with feral cat clinics and the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program-a cause she championed with quiet determination.

A woman of deep faith, Jean found strength and solace in her church community. She loved singing in the choir and helping out wherever she was needed. Her faith carried her through life's most difficult moments and remained a guiding light throughout her journey.

Jean's kindness left an indelible mark on everyone who met her. She loved unconditionally and radiated warmth that drew people in. Her gentle presence and pure heart made lasting impressions that will not be forgotten.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kari Gahan; cousin, Patti Finn; cousins, Greg and Lisa Shank; and all those whose lives were touched by her care and compassion. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jack Gahan; brother, John Berg; father, Evan Berg; and mother, Carol Berg.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1701 L Street. Immediately following the service, all are invited to a luncheon downstairs in Oehler Hall for a time of fellowship and continued celebration of Jean's life.
