Jean Lucente Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2025.
Jean Lucente (Barnes), 88, of Simsbury, CT, passed peacefully on May 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Jean was born June 5, 1936, in Garland, Maine to Chester Barnes and Marion (Gallagher) Barnes.

Jean is survived by her beloved children, Daughter, Elaine Engman and husband Lauri of Manchester, CT, Son, Frank Lucente of Bristol, TN, Son, Clifford Lucente and his wife Lynn of Queen Creek, AZ, Daughter, Bonnie Fuller and her husband Jesse of Vernon, CT, Daughter, Nancy Hemmerich and her husband Frank of Simsbury CT. She is also survived by her seven cherished grandchildren - James, Peter, Katie, Mark, Matthew, Frank, and Maddie, and one great granddaughter, Scarlett. The youngest of nine children, she was predeceased by her siblings.

Jean had many creative and artistic talents. Numerous times she would transform her dining room into a craft area. There, she would make and sell Christmas ornaments to help create magic for her kids during the holidays. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, welcoming new spouses and babies with personalized Christmas stockings and blankets. When she wasn't crafting you could find her with pen in hand, working on a crossword, or sitting at the table with a jigsaw puzzle. In her younger years, she enjoyed her Tuesday night bowling league with lifelong friends.

Some of her other talents included writing poetry for birthdays and holidays, mirror writing in cursive, and making the best New York style cheesecake. While Jean had a diverse artistic flair, her favorite role was being a grandma. She loved holding and singing to the babies in her family. As those babies grew into young children, Jean would share her joy of creating crafting projects with them. She was blessed to watch her two youngest grandchildren grow from infants into responsible young adults.

Jean was known by many to be a woman of few words but could be coaxed from her shell to share many stories utilizing her razor-sharp wit.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave, in Windsor on Thursday, June 5 from 3:30-5:30, with a brief celebration of life service commencing at 5.

Jean has requested for attendees to "come as you are" in the name of comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A wonderful grandma who everyone loved. Super talented women, artistic and who could make t shirts out of dollar bills. She also had the most amazing baked cheesecake recipe. You will be loved, missed and never forgotten xx

Jean eagerly shared craft patterns with me, but my fondest memory, which always brings a smile to my heart, is when Jean and Gram enjoyed a Mud Slide together! Cheers in Heaven to both of you!

I worked with Jean at Christmas Tree Shop in Manchester, CT. I was instantly drawn to her as she so reminded me of my grandmother in looks and spirit. She was very well liked by all employees and management. My condolences to her family and friends during their time of grief. May she rest in peace.
