Mrs. Eleanor “Jean” Morgan, 89 of Jenkinsburg, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 10, 2015. Jean was born on August 27, 1925 in Shawneetown, IL. She was the oldest of nine children, born to the late Charles and Celia Lackey. Jean was an avid reader and the valedictorian of her graduating class. After graduation, she and her sister, Pat, moved to Chicago for a while and then on to Detroit where she met her future husband, Harold Monroe Morgan. After they married, they lived in Michigan until they moved to Jenkinsburg in 1972. Jean worked for McIntosh State Bank in Jackson until her retirement in 1998. After her retirement, she moved to Clearwater, FL. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, her church and the Atlanta Braves. But most of all was time spent with her family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and was proud of them and their accomplishments. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Morgan, her son in law, Peter Markel and granddaughter, Rina Markel and by siblings, Charles, Roy (Buddy), Ruth and Glenda. Survivors include her children, Gwendolyn (Michael) Honey of Tampa, FL, Geraldine Markel of Palm Bay, FL, Kathy (Ricky) Cook of Locust Grove, GA and Thomas Morgan of Locust Grove, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Centola of Ann Arbor, MI, Melissa Bowers of Palm Bay, FL, Pete (Monica) Cook of Locust Grove, GA, Jennifer (Keith) Rivers of Locust Grove, GA, Nicole (Luke) Phillips of Hampton, GA and Danielle Morgan of McDonough, GA; great grandchildren, Maryann, Dillion, Christy, Brittany, Timmy, Lexi, Corbin and Kyleigh; siblings, Ed, Mary Lou, Pat and Charlotte. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 16, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Molena, GA.
