Jean Moyle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 24 to Aug. 27, 2023.
Tallahassee - Jean Martin Moyle, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 21st, 2023.

She was born on April 20, 1935 in High Point, North Carolina to Edith Armstong and Riley Martin on an Easter Sunday morning, which Edie always considered a special blessing, even though her husband suffered a cerebral aneurysm and died just six weeks after Jean's birth. Jean had the wonderful good fortune of being raised by her mother and the Kellam family of High Point, NC, (Aunt Olga (Nant), Uncle Marshall and cousins Thomas and Richard.)

At the age of 15, Jean moved to West Palm Beach to join her mom and attend Palm Beach High School where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Jon Cameron Moyle. They enjoyed many joyful years during their 68 years of marriage. Jean was proud to be a "Marine Corps wife" during an era of peace.

Jean attended Florida State College for Women, and graduated from the University of Florida. She was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

After a few years in Tallahassee where their son Jon, Jr. was born, Jean and Jon spent most of their lives in West Palm Beach, welcoming a daughter, Julie, and another son, Jimmy, to complete their family. Jean was a devoted mother, and will be remembered for her marionette shows, photography, cooking, plays, scuba diving and boating in the Bahamas. Jean's talented piano playing created many impromptu singing events with family and friends since she could play anything by ear. Jean's love of animals was well known to all.

Some of the best times were family trips together. On one particular trip, teenage Jon, Jr., declared "This is my last family vacation," and Jean jokingly asked, "Can we have that in writing?" Jean regularly dropped the mic with her witty one liners and her sense of humor, great intellect and legendary way with words.

Jean shared her love and kindness with many during times of need and endeavored to make sure everyone felt included. She was an avid volunteer with the The Junior League of the Palm Beaches, The Norton Museum of Art, Science Museum of the Palm Beaches, and CROS Ministries where she babysat children while their immigrant mothers learned English.

Jean and Jon's sunset years were spent in the Florida panhandle overlooking St. Joe Bay and caring for their granddogs at Cape San Blas. Daily golf cart trips to the beach and adventuresome visits by their grandchildren were some of her precious memories.

Jean leaves behind her loving husband, Jon, her son Jon, Jr. (Serena), daughter, Julie (Kelli), son Jim (Robin), five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Armstrong and father, Riley Martin.

A Memorial Service is planned in Tallahassee for Sunday, October 29th, 2023 in the Gardens at LeMoyne Arts, 125 N. Gadsden St. at 2:00pm and a reception afterwards across the street at The Historic Perkins House (Moyle Law Firm) 118 N. Gadsden St.

Jean always considered her greatest accomplishment to be her wonderful children, grandchildren, and great grandchild! In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations in memory of Jean Moyle to CROS Ministries, 3677 23rd Avenue South, Unit B 101, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33461 or www.crosministries.org. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home (850- 877-8191) is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was my Bible school teacher, neighbor, had the same maiden name and birthday as my mom, mother of my oldest friend and his sister and brother, example of what grace and hospitality look like, kind and caring, and will be missed by many. My heartfelt sympathies to all her family. Sending my love and hugs.
