Jean Christman Simmons

Kattelville - Jean Christman Simmons, 83, of Kattelville, passed away on January 19, 2020. Jean was born on June 4, 1936, daughter of the late Alexander and Theresa Christman. Jean was her Oneonta High School Valedictorian and a Harper College graduate. A well-respected teacher, Jean taught for over 30 years at Harpursville and Chenango Forks Central Schools. Jean was predeceased by her husband and love of her life Clifford; sister, Nancy Tweedale; brothers, Albert and Theodore Christman and sister-in-law Sue Christman. She is survived by her daughter, Coreen Simonds; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Terri; grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren; sister, Susan Evans; brothers, Bill and Charlyn Christman, Gary "Pete" and Joanna Christman, Charlie and Nancy Christman; sister-in-law, Paula Christman; brother-in-law, Steve and Grace and many nieces and nephews. Jean was a loving wife and mother. She absolutely adored her grandchildren. Jean was very compassionate and enjoyed donating her time to help others. While spending her winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, Jean was the president of the Genysis Project for the homeless and volunteered at the local food bank. At home, she worked at Project Concern in Chenango Bridge. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 12:00 pm at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. Friends of the family may call Saturday 11:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CHOW, 3 Otseningo Street, Binghamton, NY 13903, or to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.

We are saddened to hear that Jean has passed.
It is hard for us to know that Jean & Cliff are both
Deceased. A great couple that enjoyed their retired
Life to the fullest. Jean & I worked together for many
Years at W. A. Olmsted Elementary School in Harpursville NY. She will be greatly missed by me

So very sorry to hear of Jean's passing. She was always a "spark" with a constant presence of kindness. She taught me so much about teaching throughout our years together at WAO. Jean will be remembered with a smile by all of us her knew her.
